　「GIMP2」は、「Adobe Photoshop」に肩を並べる高機能なフォトレタッチ・ソフトです。Photoshopと同じように「レイヤー」「チャンネル」「トーンカーブ」「パス」も使うことができます。数多くのフィルタを駆使して特殊効果を施すこともできます。このGIMPは、オープン・ソースで開発されています。そのため、商用ソフトに比べてユーザーとの距離が近く、ユーザー自身が欲する機能がどんどん追加され、発展を進めています。

「ビギナーのための」とゆうわりには説明が不十分だとおもいました。できる機能はわかったけどそれをするためにどうやっていったらいいかわからず、なげだしそうになりました。　私はちょうど『ＧＩＭＰですぐできる！フォトレタッチスーパーテクニック２００８』という本も同時に買っていて在庫切れのため何週間か遅れて届いたのですが、その本には基本（なのかな？）のキー操作とかも書いてあってそれを見てやっと使えるようになってきました。ある程度わかっているひとにはいいのかもしれませんがまったくの初心者という方にはおすすめできません。しかも半分以上がカラーではないので例えば、赤緑青の色要素を使った機能の説明をされても全部度合いの違うグレーにしか見えずますます困惑しました。
値段も他のに比べて安くなかったので失敗したなーと思いました。

全く有用でないわけではないですけど、
モノクロページが多すぎます。
しかもそのページで色の調整とかしてる。
意図が分からないです。
カラーページもあるのだから
全ページをカラーにすればいいのに。

それとGIMP関連本の中では高価ですね。
その割りに版型が小さく情報が少ない。
とてもコストパフォーマンスが低い商品です。
