　この本は、高齢者の正常な認知機能についての知見を理解しやすくまとめた本で、大きく分けて「基礎的メカニズム」、｢注意と記憶」、｢言語と発語」、｢応用」の4部で構成されている。

　このような分野については、英語で書かれた書物はいくつかあるが、日本語の出版物としては初めてのものではないだろうか。本書も翻訳書であるため、入門書というわりには難解な表現もあるのは否めない。しかし、この本を読めば、これまでの代表的な研究や加齢と認知に関する包括的な枠組みをある程度理解できるだろう。また、英語の文献を読む際に補助的役割を果たすかもしれない。
