現在は、適当な統計パッケージソフトとデータがあれば、きわめて簡単に因子分析が行える。本書はそのような時代にまさに適合した因子分析の入門書である。本書の副題にあるように、本書には数式が出てこない。数式が出てこないことを売り物にした本にはいい加減なものが多いが、本書は因子分析の考え方をきちんと説明している良書である。本書では、基本的に代表的統計パッケージであるSPSSのアウトプットを提示して、その意味と解釈の仕方、アウトプットの後ろにある理論を説明するというスタイルをとっている。説明は明快であり、分かりやすい。ただ、因子分析をきちんと理解するためには、統計学や線形代数の基本的知識を身につけたうえで因子分析の理論を学習していくべきだと思うので、本書はそのよう!な本格的な学習を行う前の動機付けのための入門書と考えるべきだろう。表紙はとてつもなくセンスが無く、本文も見たことがないほどポイントを落として詰め込んであるが、それらの体裁上の欠陥を補って余りがある良書である。

心理学系統の大学の教師をしているんですけど、こうなるともはや基礎的なことはあまり人には聞けませんよね。正直いくつかわからないことがありました。たとえば、斜交回転のアウトプットの読み方など・・でも、この本を読んでいろいろな疑問が解消されました。誰にも聞けない人々、心理学やマーケティングや社会学の教師や、統計数理関係の会社の管理職や主任クラスの研究員の人などのもおすすめします。学生や部下にばれないように買って読んでおきましょう。

仕事で多変量解析を扱わなければならなくなり、結構な量の本を買い込んだが今ひとつピンとこなかった私の目を開いてくれた一冊！
数学的な基礎が無くても一通り因子分析と多変量解析が理解できます。
統計学系の本で数式に悩まされ、多変量解析を理解できなかった人にお勧めです。
