淡水魚保護協会を立ち上げ日本の淡水魚保護にまさに全霊を傾けた男の物語。
現在80歳を超えてもなおその情熱は消えていない。
これまでに断片的に知り得た情報がこの本によりかなり時系列的にまとまったものとなりより木村先生の凄さが体感出来た。
多くの研究者、釣り人、淡水魚に見せられた人々が淡水魚保護協会の再開を望んでいるであろう。
木村英造と言う男の独創性やある種独善的とも取られる行動が問題も起こしてきたではあろうが最終的にそれらの事はこれからの歴史が判断していく。
確かに長良川河口堰問題では、結果として河口堰は出来てはしまったが、その過程においていかに多くの、未来の為への無形有形なモノが得られた事は言うまでもない。
ノータリンクラブの一員として素石らとともに活動をともにしたが、最終的には今西錦司翁の仲介も功を奏せず仲たがいしてしまった事は非常に残念である。この事は朔風社、渓流釣りＶｏｌ．５の山本素石を偲んでの木村英造氏の一文に詳しい。またこの文章に木村英造氏の素石に対する大きな愛情を感じるのは自分だけではないであろう。
釣り師として出来る事、単に魚を釣ることで終わるのなら、日本の渓流はやがて死滅するのであろう。外来魚の問題、生物の多様性を考慮しない移植放流や増殖放流。魚道さえ付ければ免罪符のように出来てしまうダムや堰堤。
魚を釣る技術を磨く前に魚の住む環境やその生態を知る努力をしていかない限り在来魚は絶滅の道を歩むことになるのであろう。
今の時期にこの本が出てきた事に感謝するとともに、筆者である上野敏彦氏の筆力に感動した

　「飲む、打つ、買う」が遊びを知り尽くした男の表現に使われるが、それがどれほどつまらないものか、木村英造氏の人生と比べるとよくわかる。遊びのスケールが違うのである。ポルトガルのエンリケという航海者の人物伝を書くためにポルトガルまで出かけ、１０年かけて本を出版する。ニホンオオカミやツチノコを追いかけたかと思えば、現在は淡水魚の保護に情熱を傾け、78歳にして｢淡水魚の窓」というＨＰを立ち上げる。もちろん木村英造氏にとってはすべて真剣勝負なのだが、これで儲けようとも考えていない。おおいなる“遊び”なのである。
　著者である上野敏彦氏は、そんな木村氏を丹念に取材し、鮮やかに描きだした。華ある人物と優れた語り部があって成功した１冊と言える。

ここに来て、淀川の危機的状況を先生が書かれているとの
こと。
すでに８０歳を越え、ご自身でも体調を悪さを書かれていますが、
淡水魚保護に
かける情熱は失っていません。
是非とも皆で淀川の在来魚を守りましょう。
遠く離れていて直接何も出来ないので寄付をしようと思うのですが、
皆がバラバラでやっていても木村先生に迷惑が掛かるので何か良い
案がないでしょうか？
