内容が古い。という意見も確かに間違っていないが、
ＣＤよりもアナログレコードを好んで聴くような人には
この本の良さが分かってもらえると思う。

また、心構えの戦術書として、充分いまでも通用するもの
だと思うし、そういう人たちと麻雀を打つのが楽しい。

この本は麻雀やる人はもちろん読める本なのだけれど、
とくに麻雀に限らず、その他の分野にも言えるのではないか
ということまで書いてある。
始めに運のやりとりだとか書いてあって一見すると非現実と見えるが実は違う。
例
「自然主義を信奉している人は例外なく敗者である。」（教訓７より）

「同じ武器で戦う以上、勝負のポイントは心理戦にある。」（教訓１１より）
「アガることだけ考えるのは下手の証拠である。」（教訓１２より）
「山という偶然をツモってテンパイに達する。その点では誰も大差はない。だから差が付くのはそれ以外の部分にある。」（教訓１７より）

「相手の安全牌を減らす事。これでまさか待つワケがないと思う牌をなくすこと。これがテンパイの技術である。」（教訓１８より）

など、まるでその考え方は現実主義ではないか。
いかに勝つか、いかに相手を出し抜くか。
それは麻雀だけに言えた事ではないのだ。
人より出来る奴は何か人と違う事をやっているものだ。
そんな事をこの本は教えてくれる。

だが、この本が楽しく始めから終わりまでスラスラ読めるかというとそうではないので、星は４つ。
そしてもうすでに自分独自のセオリー、戦法などをすでに確立された方にはお勧めしない。
下手に他の兵法を採り入れることこそ生兵法、ケガの元に成りかないからである。

雀聖阿佐田哲也のあまりにも有名な戦術書。かって、古川凱章、小島武夫、大隈秀夫、青木王位、灘麻太郎、大橋巨泉等々、数多くの戦術書を読んだが、内容においても読み物（読者を退屈させずに読ませる技術）という点においても本書に並ぶものは一つもなかった。五味康祐の著作を含めてもそう思う。初読の時は、「麻雀は運のやりとりである」という部分に目が行ったが、長年この遊びになじんでみると最終章の「麻雀とは何であるか」の部分が実に味わい深く身にしみる。麻雀は運のｹﾞｰﾑであり、常に正解という打ち方はない。但し、同種の場面で100回打った際に、ある打ち方が55回有利で、他が45回有利だとすれば、常時55回のやり方で打ち、45回は失敗しても、その差の10回のﾒﾘｯﾄを取ろうとする。これが麻雀のﾌｫｰﾑであると著者は説く。従い、１局、半荘、あるいは一晩の勝利に必要以上に拘泥するべきではないということをこの本で学んだ。そういう意味で、極めて実戦的という点でも、このｼﾞｬﾝﾙでは他に類のない、今後もおそらく出ない名著だと思う。
