　日経新聞土曜版「NIKKEIプラス1」に2002年~2004年まで連載されていた記事をもとに編集された温泉ガイドブックで、連載当時から毎週楽しみにしていたものだが、こうして一冊にまとまっていると、次はどこに行こうかと楽しみが膨らむ。温泉に関する古い書籍やゆかりのある人々のエピソードを交えて、エリア別に100の温泉が紹介されており、泉質・泉温・効能に加え、宿情報の記載もあって利便性が高い。また含有成分や泉質ごとの適応症などをまとめたコラムも、温泉学の入門として役に立つ。
　温泉教授・松田先生は、本物の温泉のみに秘められた生命力を「温泉力」と呼び、温泉を浴びる＝「湯浴み」とは地球の生命力、エネルギーを生の形でいただくことだと言う。本物の温泉を楽しむということは、なんと奥が深いのだろう。この本が手元にあると温泉の楽しみ方が変わるかもしれない。

5.0 out of 5 stars 名著「松田忠徳の日本百名湯」の続編がついに登場！, 2006/9/17
松田忠徳の日本百名湯は、泉質主義の温泉ファンにはバイブル的な存在だった。
但し、全国にあまたある名湯を強引に百まで絞ってしまったため、まだまだ紹介足りない温泉があったのも事実である。
例えば、鉛温泉、甲子温泉、小屋原温泉、俵山温泉、壁湯温泉などは、名湯中の名湯であり、百選から漏れたのが残念でならなかった。
しかし、その想いをくんでくれた続編がついに出版された。
前掲の５つの名湯はもちろん、かなりマニアックな温泉地までも踏み込んだ紹介がされている。
また、乳頭、草津、有馬、別府、黒川などのメジャーな温泉地は別の旅館をとりあげることで、前著とは違った角度から解説を行っている。
確かに、メジャーな温泉地は２ページでは到底語りつくせないので、この試みは非常に歓迎できる。
前著を読んだ私としては、続編としてこの本の出来は最高である。
但し、前著を読まずにこの本だけで全国の温泉を概観するのは漏れが多くなるので危険である。
前著で掲載できなかった名湯の掲載とメジャー温泉地の補説がこの本の位置づけだからだ。
あくまでも、この本は前著を読み終えたひとの続編として位置づけられるべきである。
