これさえあれば一体どれほどの眠れない夜を
やり過ごすことができるだろうか！ってな本です。

およそ600ページにわたって宮崎監督の世界が
ぎっしりと詰め込まれています。

アニメ論、企業の採用試験から時間の流れなどを独自の視点で捉えた
エッセイ的文章、押井守や村上龍などの著名人との対談、企画書、
作品についてのコメントなどなど、どこのページを開いても読み応えの
ある文章ばかりという内容の充実ぶりです。

日本が世界に誇る人ですから、そんな彼が一体何をどう考えてきたのか
を知るというだけでも面白い発見に満ちています。
不思議なことですが、独創性に満ちた彼の思想に触れるだけで、
自分も今まで以上の想像力を授かった錯覚さえします。

ボリューム、内容の質をとっても文句無しなので、
数ある「宮崎本」の中から僕はこれを一番にオススメします。

アニメファン必読というより、演出やクリエイターが是非見ておきたい一冊。人間、宮崎駿の創作の源流が明確に明示されている。あまり普段見ることのない、各作品群の企画書。それを見ることによって創作されたときの隠された意図をかいまみる事が出来る。彼が創作した作品を年代ごとに解説しているのも興味深い。ここまで様々な情報を考察していないと、あれほどの作品は完成しなのかと思わせるほど、同業者には失意される力をこの本は持っている。

宮崎駿が各種出版物に発表した文章や講演をひとつに収録した本である。改めて氏のアニメーション論などが展開されているわけではないので注意されたい。内容はアニメーション製作現場の実態に始まり、教育論、文化論にまで及ぶ。

氏は常に何かと闘っている人である。それは自分自身の矛盾であったり、業界のシステムであったり、先人の業績であったりする訳だが、その姿から垣間見ることができるのは、常に新しいものを生み出さねばならない、生み出そうとせずにはいられない人間の苦悩である。

一部では物議を醸した「手塚治虫論」も収録されているが、これはまんま『魔女の宅急便』のウルスラである。オリジナルなものを創りだすには乗り越えなければいけない壁がある。尊敬する人物にしても例外ではない。この激しい「追悼文」から狂おしいまでの手塚治虫への愛情が感じられないだろうか。

また、漫画版『風の谷のナウシカ』の結末は『未来少年コナン』を演出した人物が書いたものとは到底思えないものとなっている訳だが、これを転向ととるか否かは本書を読んでから判断すべきであろう。あくまで創造者の立場を取るものは孤独なのである。

宮崎駿という人はアニメを世界に認められる芸術にまで昇華させた。その源泉はどこにあったのか、それを本書からうかがい知ることができる。
