花言葉って地域や研究者によって内容が違うのが普通？この本では多くの資料や文献を土台にしながら花の流通状況も考慮にいれて紹介されています。不幸を意味するものは励まし元気づけるような言葉で書かれていて、本当に読む人の幸せを願って書かれたのが伝わってきました。また、誕生日ごとの花占いやラッキーポイントなど占い的要素も含まれていて読んでいて楽しかったです。

「誕生花」や「花言葉」は、ギリシャ神話や各地の伝説、風習にちなんだり、花そのもののイメージになぞらえて、決められてきた。そのため、その種類や内容が異なるのが普通である。
　本書はその起源や歴史を探るのが目的ではない。どれが正しいか、などというのはナンセンスである。どれも正しく、どれも正しくないのである。花信仰…花占い…そうかもしれないという純真さが花には宿っているはずである。
　気持ちを伝えたいときは、この花を！という花信仰であろうか。幸福や成功を願うとき、元気を贈りたいとき、どんな花を贈ればいいのか、簡単にわかる本である。花言葉を添えて贈れば、相手の人はどれほど喜ばれることだろう。
〈元気を贈りたいとき〉…ストック〈逆境を克服する力〉　プリムラ〈若き日の躍動と輝き〉　ミヤコワスレ〈強い意志〉　ペンタス〈希望は実現する〉　ローズマリー〈あなたは私をよみがえらせる〉
本日２月２２日誕生花は「ハナニラ」〈ユリ科〉花言葉「別れの悲しみ」
このように決められてしまうのはつらいけれど、この花を別れ行く人にひそかに、そっと贈るのも「愛」などと大げさに言わなくても「沈潜のひたごころ」が湛えられていていいのではあるまいか。
