これからの展開に期待したいところですが、
本来チーム医療であるはずの精神科医療が、医師と看護師のみによって描かれるのは合点がいかない気がします。
作業療法士や精神保健福祉士などのコ・メディカルスタッフの活躍なしに現在の精神科医療は考えられないと思うのですが。

昔ですが自分自身一度悩みで人間不信に陥り、凶暴になり、暴れて、眠れなくてイライラして精神科に相談して精神安定剤をもらった事がありました。でも精神病とは診断されませんでした。「ちょっと悩みでいっぱいいっぱいなだけだろうね。時間が経てば落ち着くよ」みたいな感じ。そして入院もその後の通院もしてません。
つまり僕は精神障害者ではありません。ちょっと一時期悩みで自分が分からなくなってただけです。程度は違えど誰にでもある若かりし頃です。

でもこういう事なのでしょう。
もし僕があのころやけになって凶悪な事件を起こしたとする。
新聞やニュースでは「精神科に掛かった事がある」ということがクローズアップされる。
見ている人は精神障害者は犯罪を犯しやすいと思い込む。

サラリーマンが事件を犯してもサラリーマン全体は差別されない。
フリーターでも主婦でも未成年者でも。
たとえクローズアップされたとしても。
しかし精神障害者だけは・・。何故？
色んなメディアによって刷り込まれた根拠のない常識。
知りたくないから分からない。分からないから差別する。
無知は罪です。それが分かるきっかけになります。
分からなくとも考えるきっかけになります。
そしてそれは考えるべきだと思います。

この漫画は先ず新生児医療編で「命の誕生」を描いた。ダウン症という病を「才能」と捉えることを読者に訴え、患者の立場からその厳しい環境を見るように主張した。
次にガン医療編で、ある中年女性を題材に「命の終わり」を描いた。すい臓ガンという難しい病気にただひたすら治すわけではなく、ガンとともに生きることを一つの選択肢として挙げた。
そして今回、この精神科医療編で作者は「生き方」を描いている。マスコミという物を絡め、たくさんの偏見に満ちたこの精神病疾患者を特別視せず、ただ一人の人間として見るように主張している。これは新生児医療編とも重なるテーマである。

重いテーマを常に作者らしく描くこの漫画にはいつも考えさせられる。研修医という特別な立場に主人公を置き、僕たちはいつのまにか作者の手によって感情移入させられているのだ。
