この辞典の購入を検討する際、もっとも迷ったのは既刊のネーミング辞典二冊と内容が同じかどうか、ということ。
というのも、僕はすでにパート１は購入しており、パート２を買うか、こちらを買うか迷っていたからです。
しばし悩んだ末、こちらを買うことに決めたのですが、これは正解。
予想通り、内容は二冊を合体させたもので、さらに項目を追加させたものでした。
また、サイズは既刊の二冊より少し大きい程度で、厚さ重さも同程度。さらに、単語は五十音順に変更されており、より辞典として引きやすくなっています。
もちろん、これまでの項目別もインデックスとして収録されているため、学研ネーミング辞典のオールインワンタイプとして、使い勝手は良くなっています。
欲を言えば、どうせ新しくするなら、新外国語も追加してほしかったなぁ、というのがありますが、これはこれで納得できる一冊です。

　「愛」から、「ワンルームマンション」まで、日本語の項目数は、３５００以上あります。１３カ国語といっても、欧米中心なので、ハングルや中国語以外にも、ヒンドゥー語などのアジア系言語があったらもっと良かったと思います。カタカナ読みなので、正確なアクセントまでは分かりませんが、ハングルには、「ネックレス」や「洋服ダンス」など、日本語との響きのギャップがあって面白く、ハングルにも興味を持ちました。また、オランダ語と英語が、意外と近い感じがして驚きました。ネーミングだけでなく、外国語同士の微妙な響きの差を楽しむの良いかと思います。欄外に、その言葉の語義があったりと、雑学的な知識も補完しているだけでなく、巻末には、どの言葉に適しているかが診断できる簡単なチャートも付属しており、いたせりつくせりといった感じでした。
