この頃の椎名誠は勢いがあった。私自身にも勢いがあった。２０年ほど前に読んだが、その当時この独特の文体にかなり衝撃を受けた。よくまねしたものだ。椎名誠をはじめて読む人は、このくせのある文体にはまるか、もうたくさんと思うか、どちらかだと思う。

椎名誠は好きな作家だが、小説は良いとは思わない。文章回しが重いし、全体的に暗い。汚い話がふんだんに出てくる。個人的な好みなので、なんとも言えないが。

ところで、その暗くて汚い目黒浩二の話はさておいて、１０１ページからベストセラーを作る方法というのがでてくる。どんな本でも、ベストセラーにできます。と書いてある。とても説得力があって、特に○○賞受賞作なんてのも、この手で作られてるようなのが結構ある。読んでも面白くも何ともないのに、なぜかベストセラー。有名な作家の本でも、ときにこの手で売ってあるのがあるように思われる。読んでみると目から鱗だが、やっぱり暗い。

タイトルにもなっている小説が面白い｡　読む本がなければ命にも関るほどの
活字中毒の友人を、筆者が味噌蔵に閉じ込める……という奇想天外な話なのだけれど、妙なリアリティと迫力がある。
その他､筆者による多くの雑誌のレビューが掲載されているのだが､

こちらは少々､読者を選ぶかも｡　書かれたのがずいぶん前な上に､現在は廃刊になっているものも多いからだ｡　それらの本に関心がある人､または
ある一定の年代以上の人には興味深い内容だとは思う｡
