Vibという楽器もとても色々な顔を持っていると思います。メカニカル/テクニカルに操ればマイク・マイニエリのサウンドに、熱くソウルフルに演じればミルト・ジャクソンのそれに、ジャジーな中に先進性を取り込めばゲイリー・バートンのそれにもなります。
BlueNoteを代表するボビー・ハッチャーソンのそれは、非常にクールな一面がありますが、本作（'75年作）ではラテン・ジャズのグルーヴを最大に昇華させていると思います。B.ハッチャーソンのvibもそうですが、L.ナッシュのelpがなんともいい感じです。
評論家の方が何を言おうと、私のような初心者は、正直、"ハプニングス"の良さは未だ良くわかりません(^^; しかし、本作にあるノリや楽しさ、ラテン・グルーヴは理屈なしで受け入れられるのです。
[7]はロック派の方にはサンタナ辺りのプレーで聴き覚えがあるかも知れません。

リリース1975年、ラテン・レアグルーヴの名盤。ジャズ界からはH.メイソン、L.ナッシュら、ラテン界からはウィリー・ボボらの異種格闘技でラテンリズムに乗せてハッチャーソンがヴァイブやマリンバを踊るように操ってます。透明感あるヴァイブやマリンバの音色と情熱あふれるラテンリズムのバランスがGoodであります。ちなみに人から聞いたんですがスチャダラパーの元ネタも収録されているそうです。

世間様では「ハップニングス」をおすすめなさる方が多いのですが、そのアルバムのなかには The Omenなる曲（三流ホラー映画のサントラのような音。あれは音楽ではありません。理解不能）が最後に挿入されておりそれまでの全てをぶちこわしてくれています。
それに比べてこのアルバムは、楽曲 1.Camel Rise で起こしにはいって、Camelはイベロアメリカにはいないはずなのにラテン世界に一気に私を導いてくれます。さあ、どうなるのかな？と思ったら、岩石砂漠の夕刻に吹くさわやかな風のような 2.montara が受け継いでくれます。3.(Se Acabo) La Malanga はエキゾチックなパーティのごとく、ボビハチ様のバイブがはじけます。4. Love Song はソレの余韻か。とってもいい感じ。5. Little Angel はダンス向きで、かつジャージーおしゃれな曲です。1958年のハバナ午前三時もこんな感じかな？と思わせます。6. Yuyo でのムズムズ感、控えめだが存在感のあるボビハチ様のバイブとエレピの掛け合い、たまりません。盛り上がったところで最後はあの7. Oye Como Va「僕の歌を聴いてくれ(作曲；Tito Puente)」で締めます。ボーカル入り、控えめだが熱っぽいバイブ。燃えるトランペット。演奏はFade Outでは終わりません。チャンチャンパッ！で終わります。これでまた聴きたくなるのです。
1989年にもラテンアルバム「Ambos Mundos」がありますが、このBlue Noteの「Montara」にはかないません。
