内容紹介
本作『Dubsetter』は前作『The Mighty Upsetter』のダブ・アルバム。ただ、オリジナルの音源を解体・再構築していく通常の「ダブ・アルバム」とは違うスタイルによって制作されている。例えば、この『Dubsetter』には『The Mighty Upsetter』でクレジットされていないプレイヤーが数多く名を連ねている。ブラジルのサンパウロとサルバドールで録音されたと思わしき一部のパーカッション演奏は今回改めて追加収録されたものだし、ダグ・ウィンビッシュ(タックヘッド?リヴィング・カラー)やベテラン・サックス・プレイヤーのデッドリー・ヘッドリーも今回新たにクレジットされている。いくつかの楽曲は原曲のリミックスと言える程度の原型を留めているものの、数曲では大幅にパートが追加され、ほぼ別ヴァージョンと言うべき楽曲となっているのである。そういった意味で、『The Mighty Upsetter』のなかにあったペリーとエイドリアンのバランスがグッとエイドリアン寄りにしたアルバムとは言えるが、エイドリアンの気迫、そして、ふと現れるペリーの言葉。これらが生み出す緊迫感は、『The Mighty Upsetter』とは異なるスリルを僕らに与えてくれる。 パンキッシュで時にメタリックな質感を持つON-Uサウンドを毛嫌いするレゲエ・ファンは決して少なくないが、その一部は『The Mighty Upsetter』を聴いてその思いを改めざるを得なかった。この『Dubsetter』はそうしたリスナーをさらに虜にする力を秘めてもいるし、より広範囲に届けられるべき創造力(想像力)、アイデア、密度がここには詰まっている。『Dubsetter』をただのダブ・アルバムと言うべきではない。これは「もうひとつの『The Mighty Upsetter』」だ。《参加アーティスト(一部)、Dennis Bovell (Bass)、Skip McDonald (Guitars)、Doug Wimbish (Bass)、Ghetto Priest(Vocal)、Samia Farah(Vocal)、Denise Sherwood(Vocal)、他多数!!》
