アーティストについて

Black Dog Production名義でUKテクノ黎明期に数多くのクラシック、革新的な作品を発表してきたEd HandleyとAndy TurnerがBlack Dog分裂後にメイン・プロジェクトとして活動を活性化したのがPlaid。EPのリリース、Bjorkとのコラボレーション等を経て、97年「Not For Tree」を<WARP>よりリリース。以降コンスタントに作品を発表。Black Dogでの活動歴も含め、後のIDM、エレクトロニカと呼称されるサウンドの雛形を作ったパイオニアとしても評価が高く、その硬質なビートや独特の旋律を持った美しいメロディーライン、流麗なエレクトロニック・サウンドに魅了されるアーティストも枚挙に暇がない。最新オリジナル作品は映像作家のBob Jarocとの連名で06年にリリースされたCD/DVD作「Greedy Baby」。またMichael Arias監督デビュー作「鉄コン筋クリート」のサウンドトラックも担当している。

Spokes以降のPlaidのアルバムは、映像とのコラボだったりサントラだったりでどうもよろしくなく、今回も映画の劇中スコアということでどうかなぁ？と思っていたのですが、DVD付きGreedy Babyや鉄コン筋クリートオリジナル・サウンドトラックよりは"らしさ"が多少取り戻された印象です。でもやっぱ映像を意識しすぎてしまう傾向があるのでしょうか、もうちょっとかつての彼ららしい"音だけスケープが見えてくるような"奥深さやひねり、何にも縛られない自由さが古くからのファンに懐かしいなぁと。結論、少し物足りない感じが残ってしまいますが、そんなに悪くは無いと思ます
