一人前の絵描きになることを夢見てジェリーはアメリカからパリへやってきた。個展でアメリカ人の富豪ミロに認められるが、それは公私にわたるパトロンとしてのお誘いでもあった。ジェリーはミロと一緒に行ったキャバレーで、偶然見かけた清楚なパリ娘リズに一目惚れしてしまう。お互いに愛し合う仲になったが、ジェリーはある日、リズに婚約者がいることを告げられる。悲恋は果たしてこのまま終わってしまうのだろうか!?ジョージ・ガーシュウインの名曲に乗せて綴るハリウッド・ミュージカルの傑作。51年度アカデミー賞8部門に輝いた。

ブルーレィの威力は凄かった。DVDレストア盤も解像力はあった。しかし、ブルーレィ盤を見てしまうと、＜コリャ〜ビックリ！！＞の解像力です。出演者の細やかな目の動き、瞳の色、
些細な顔の表情、服の質感・・・・。どれをとっても新鮮そのもの。驚きの映像です。
これが生粋の＜巴里のアメリカ人＞の映像だったのか！。本当に１９５１年当時、これ程の
映像が　各映画館で観られたのだろうか？？？。と疑問を持ちつつ、これ程のまでの映像をレストア・ブルーレィ化し・何度も自宅で鑑賞出来る時代を幸せに感じます。
さてさて、今後、＜雨に唄えば＞をはじめ、往年のＭＧＭミュージカルのブルーレィ盤が発売されますが、本当に素晴らしい作品になると思います。すごくたのしみです。

ここのレビューを参考にさせて頂いて早速購入してみましたが、仰るとおりの高画質に驚嘆しました。
1951年頃の日本映画は時おりハイビジョン放送で見ますが、もちろんモノクロでかなりぼやけた映像でしか見ることができません。ところが、その同じ時代のものをカラーで、そしてこんなに超鮮明画像で見れるとは思いませんでした。レストア(修復)技術もかなり向上しているようですね。

この調子でこの頃のミュージカル、スペクタル、恋愛ものなどをどんどんブルーレイ化していって欲しいですね。まだハリウッドには無尽蔵のソフトが眠っているでしょうから、当分の間は楽しめそうです（＾＾）。

たしかに画像の鮮明さや特典映像の多さには満足ですが、ちょっと期待はずれなところが２つありました。まず画像が４：３なのが残念、ブルーレイといえば１６：９のワイドスクリーンでなければ値打ちがありません。また音が古いままで迫力半減です。せめて擬似的でもいいですから良い音に改良してほしかったです。最近の技術では十分可能なことですから。今回のようですと、今後クラシックミュージカルのブルーレイ購入をためらうかもしれません。是非ともメーカーさんの努力をお願いしたいものです。
