取説を読まずとも直感的に操作できます。画像のプロでもない限りはエレメンツの機能で十分以上に用が足ります。これまでエレメンツ３を使い続けてきましたが、新機種デジカメ対応RAWファイル入れ替えの手間や追加機能を考えると、そろそろ最新バージョンにしてもいいだろうということで購入。アップグレード版は、PCに入っているエレメンツの製品番号やCDが必要になる場合がある、とのことでしたが私は必要ありませんでした。以前のバージョンがインストールしてある場合は、まず旧エレメンツを削除してからインストールしたほうがスッキリしていいかもしれません。また、エレメンツであればどのバージョンからでもアップグレードができますので心配ありません。インストールが完了した後のユーザー登録も簡単になりました。ただ、作業画面が濃いグレーになったのとメニューバーを開いた時の文字が薄くて見辛いのはファームアップ配信等で改善の余地があるでしょう。作業画面がどうして18パーセントグレーがデフォルトなのかは、写真をやっている者としては理解できますが、それよりも画像を読み込んで作業する時の背景色とのマッチング・見易さを優先して考えるべきだったと思います。オープニング画面から作業ボタンを選んでソフトを立ち上げるとJAVAが一気に動き出すので、多量の画像を扱う場合のPCメモリは２Gないと辛いでしょう。３Gあれば…、というところでしょうか。

５から6を飛ばしてのアップグレードです。
新たな機能は便利そうですが、写真管理機能が予想以上に重いです。
要求仕様は満たしているパソコンですが、これまで普通に使う分にはそれほど重く感じなかった写真の管理機能が重くて。また、全画面での表示時にリンク切れの表示が出てしまうという不具合が見られます（不具合はアップデートでなおると思いますが）。

2万枚を超える写真を登録している事もあるのかもしれませんが、それなりのマシンを使用していないとかなり厳しいかもしれません。
