イームズの作品集は既に一枚「EAMES FILMS:チャールズ&レイ・イームズの映像世界」が出ています。
このDVDは決定版的で、一般的な意味では十分な内容だと思います。
値段を考えれば、一般的にはそちらのDVDのほうを推薦します。
DISC-1は、特典映像を除けば全く同じ内容ですし。
（イームズの娘と孫の創った特典映像は一見の価値があると思いますが。）

ですが、この手の映像を見たがる人はすでに「椅子のイームズ」というイメージを離れ、「クリエーター・イームズ」丸ごとに興味がある人ではないかと思います。
そういう人には堪えられない充実した内容になっているように思います。
書物でしか紹介されていなかった、いわば幻とも言える映像がテンコ盛り。
特に、アイディア・フィルムは、イームズ夫妻がどのようなものに、興味を持ち感動していたかが生々しく捕らえられていて、感慨深いものがあります。

個人的には、DISC-2が特に楽しめました。
「デザインQ&A」のイームズの回答、楽しい「IBMマスマティックス・ピープ・ショウ」、伝説の「ポラロイドSX-７０」、椅子の生産工程をまとめた「ファイバーグラス・チェア」、どれも最高です。
映像は、米原版からプリントして日本でレストアしているようです。
程度はまずまず、見苦しいところはありません。
欲を言えば、せっかくこれほどの値段で出すのですから、もう少し中身をサービスしてくれてもよかったのではないでしょうか。

イームズの映像作品のDVDは、日本では数年前にDVDが出ましたが、1枚のみで6作品が収録されているだけでした。イームズの映像作品はまだまだあり、ポラロイドカメラを題材にした大傑作「SX-70」などは書籍などでは知りつつも、見られないままでした。そんなときにこのDVDの発売を知り、非常に嬉しかったです。「SX-70」はもちろん、30作品も新たな作品が入っていると知り、発売日が楽しみです！

2001年に東京都美術館ほかで開かれた展覧会で見た、ファイバーグラス・チェアの製造工程のフィルム、ジャズのBGMにのったとってもオシャレな作りだったと記憶しているのですが、それがついに自分のものにできるのかと思うと感慨もひとしおです。収録作品リストを見ると、ほかにもラウンジ・チェアーやソファ・コンパクトなど、ハーマン・ミラー社がらみの椅子モノも入ってるようで、今から楽しみにしています。
