「ロマンティック」は親しみやすいが深みにかけるが、この１稿に関しては全く違う。親しみやすさはほとんど無い代わりに難解な複雑さに満ちている。この後のブルックナーの改訂作業が、世間に対する妥協に他ならなかったということがこれでもわかる。個人的にはこれから４番は第１稿を好んで聴くことになると思う。
既に存在していたインバルによる第１稿は、第２稿のイメージに近い演奏を目指していたようだ。そうすることによって結果的に第１稿と第２稿の違いが自然に現れるようにしている感じだ。第１稿の難解な複雑さもうまくカモフラージュして表にでないようにしているのかもしれない。しかし、第１稿が第２稿の亜流に聴こえてしまう結果にもなる。
それに比して、ヤングの場合は第１稿は第２稿とはまったく別の曲だというアプローチで、やっと第１稿がが第２稿の亜流ではない、強力な曲であるという事があらわになった気がする。

この人の指揮は、音色の変化が華やかだが、そのテクスチュアは決して完成されたものではなく、むしろ未熟で粗く聞こえ、それがかえって新鮮さを感じさせ心地よい。それは、このヴァージョンが初稿版であるからだろうか。さらに、この人の表現においては、本来この作品が持つ魅力が至る所から聞こえてくるような気がする。たとえばあっけらかんとしたポリフォニーなどから...

この作品が「ロマンチック」と呼ばれる所以は、巨匠たちの演奏や過去に良い評価を受けた演奏（シノーポリなど）より、むしろシモーネ・ヤングの演奏から聴き取れるような気がする。それは、彼女の第４番が初稿版であり、年を重ね大成したブルックナーの作曲技術で書き改められノーブルに生まれ変わった改訂版の様式美より、未完成な天真爛漫さを持つからかも知れない。

この演奏を聞いたあとに、比較のために、他の指揮者による改訂版を、改めて聴き直してみると「ブルックナーは受けを狙って改訂しちゃったんだなあ。初稿版のままでもよかったのに」と思わせられるのが面白い。

どう控えめに言っても、これは普段聞く4番ではないですね。まったく別物と考えた方がよいです。普段聞く版こそが、交響曲第６番くらいの感覚ですよね。ですから、この原典４番、５番、６番、ノヴァック版４番と聞くと、たぶんブルックナーの技法の発達がよくわかると思います。

ところで、ヨッフムは、４番ノヴァック版の４楽章７６小節目当たりに独自にシンバルを入れてますね。ドレスデン版、ベルリン・フィル版どちらもです。このように、ブルックナーの場合、原典を求める意味がもうあまりないようで、少しずつ違うものをわれわれ聴衆は聴かされるのですよね。もっとも、それが多少のバリアンスとなって、非常に愉快な妙味というかスパイスになっているのが面白いのですが。

シモーネ・ヤングさんには是非ノヴァック版４番もやってもらいたいです。ファンにとってはたまりません。３番の原典版も面白かったですねえ。オペラの方ですから、こういう大作りな音楽は得意だと思いますよ。願わくば、もう少しゆったりしてもらいたい。死んだテンポはいらないけど、ブルックナーの世界に浸れる時間が長いほどうれしいので。タメの必要な箇所はまだまだいろいろあると思います。できればdoverの楽譜が欲しいのですが、版の問題もあり、おいそれとは安価で提供できないのでしょうね。
