アバドが2004年にボローニャの若手音楽家を中心に結成したピリオド楽器によるオーケストラ「モーツァルト管弦楽団」と2007年にライヴ収録したモーツァルトのヴァイオリン協奏曲全曲と協奏交響曲を収録。ヴァイオリン独奏は同オーケストラでコンサートマスターを務めるジュリアーノ・カルミニョーラ。カルミニョーラにとっては2度目の全曲録音となる（一度目は1997年マルティーニの指揮で録音）。

同時期にモーツァルトの交響曲集が発売になっており、そちらは細やかな表現を駆使した斬新な演奏であったが、この協奏曲集も特徴的。特に緩徐楽章の快速テンポがなかなか強烈で、従来の古典的な演奏になじみが深い人ほど抵抗を感じるかもしれない。しかし、何度か聴いていると、カルミニョーラの安定した正確な技巧のため、決して過度に急いているというわけではなく、むしろこれが一つの自然体かもしれないと思えてくる。オーケストラ、独奏ヴァイオリンともに機敏な切れ味があり、爽快な味わいとなっている。有名な第5番の第1楽章でも、スピーディーで簡潔に音楽をまとめている。協奏交響曲ではヴィオラ独奏にダヌーシャ・ヴァスキエヴィチを迎えて、これまた細かくて速い演奏である。従来の演奏にはあった情感が薄くなってはいるが、かわって何か新しいものを聴いたという存在感のある演奏だ。

なお、協奏曲中のカデンツァは、第4番の第3楽章と協奏交響曲ではモーツァルト作のものを使用しているが、他は全てカルミニョーラ作のものとなっている。
