Alexは年頃の女の子なのに着飾ることもせず、男みたいに汗かきながら働き、いつかバレリーナになることを夢見て夜はナイトクラブで踊る。ひたむきに夢にむかって突き進むがんばる女の子なのです。でも、そんな彼女に惹かれる素敵な男性が現れるというあたりから、だんだんシンデレラのストーリーになっていく。最後は全部彼氏のおかげになってしまうのはがっかりです。もっともっと強い女の子に描いても良かったのに。相手役のNickはAlexにはおじさん過ぎて不釣合いに思います。
Jennifer Bealsのさくらんぼみたいに大きなうるうるの瞳と、ダンスと、主題歌が魅力の映画です。心理描写やストーリー性を度外視できるならお勧めです。

公開当時、ブレイクダンスが流行り始めたきっかけを作った映画作品。ストーリーとしては一途な青春を全面に押し出している。夢を持って生きること、夢に向かって挑戦し続けること、そうすれば何時かは夢が叶う。社会人になって一段落した頃8月の夏の日に観た作品が、忘れかけていた何かを思い出させてくれた。日本では夢を持つことが何か不自然に思われがちだけれど、海外殊にアメリカには夢を持ち続ける人への尊敬が今でもある。それはアメリカという国柄が夢を実現するために移住してきた人々によって創られてきたことによるからかもしれない。何と言ってもこの作品を一言で表す台詞は年老いた元バレリーナ、ハンナの“AREX,YOU CAN DO!.DO IT NOW!”である。1度は夢を諦めかけた主人公にもう一度トライすることの意味を説くシーン。そしてラスト、主人公はオーディションの審査員を前に独創性溢れるダンスを披露。1度は失敗するが、“もう一度やります”と顔を上げて一心に踊る。最初は“キワモノ”と色眼鏡で見ていた審査員も次第に彼女の内面からほとばしるひたむきさとダンスのリズムに心を奪われていく。テーマ曲の“WHAT A FEELING”が流れる中、会場の外で待っている恋人の胸に彼女が飛び込んでいき、そのままストップ・モーション。夏に相応しい爽快感あふれる目映い作品。(その後、テレビでオン･エアされた時、母は一言“強い女性ネ”と言ってました)

　主題歌と映像との相性が実にいいです！！！！

　細かいことは気にせず、PV感覚で楽しまれることをおすすめします。
