たまたまＨＭＶの視聴コーナーで手にしました。彼女の若さと優しさがあふれるような歌声に惹かれて購入しました。癒されるような雰囲気の楽曲が多く、もう少し曲調にバラエティがあると尚更良いのですが、本当に歌声は素晴らしいのでおすすめのＣＤです。先日、ビルボード・ライブにも行きましたが、その歌声はＣＤで聞くよりもさらに伸びやかで、力強さが感じられるものでした。ビルボードで販売されていたミニアルバムＣＤも購入しましたが、そちらの方は曲の雰囲気もバラエティに富んでおり素晴らしかったです。次のアルバムは非常に期待出来ると思いました。

こういう音楽を、どう形容すればいいのだろう。

誰かに似ているなぁと、思うけど、
微妙にだれとも似ていない。

一番の魅力は、歌声だと思う。

かすかに笑いを含んでいるような明るさが、
いつもただよっている。

だから草原の樹影で、幹にもたれて
彼女がギターを弾きながら歌うのを
横で聴いているような感じになる。

そこにはいい感じに風が吹いて、
空を渡る雲の動きが遠くに見えて。


11曲中、8曲を彼女自身が作り、
全曲でアコースティックギターを弾いている。

全曲でドラムスを叩き、プロデュースをしているのが、
BECKやR.E.Mに関わっているJoey Waronker。
レーベルが、ブルーノート。

録音で言えば、音の分離が抜群にいいし、
アレンジで言えば、チェロや、ハープや、ウクレレや、
ハーモニカやシンセなどが、
味わい深く使われている。

9曲目、彼女がウクレレ片手に歌うのが「Find my way back home」
2分24秒ほどの小曲だが、彼女はこれがいちばん気に入っているという。

もう２年以上もつきあっている彼氏のことを歌っていて、
「彼はわたしにとってhomeのようなもの」とインタビューに答えている。
ツアーで会えない時とか、よくこの歌を歌う、らしい。

彼女らしい率直さと優しみと暖かさと素朴さにあふれた曲。

名曲「Dream」のオフィシャルビデオも素晴らしいです。
室内にマイクスタンドを立てて、ギターケースも開けたままで
うたう彼女を、手持ちのカメラで撮影しただけのモノクロのライブ映像。
彼女はアルバムバージョンより1分以上も長い素敵な構成で
あの曲をうたいあげています。

それとジャケットとデザインが輸入盤と国内盤で大きく違いますね。
珍しいことに輸入盤の方が、可愛らしいデザインです。
中のスリーブも同じトーンで、
モノクロ写真にオレンジ色を主体としたグラフィック処理。
いいかんじですよ。
