Album Details

2008 release from the Canadian rocker, his 11th studio album overall. The album is packed full of unmistakable rockers and signature ballads including the lead single I Thought Id Seen Everything', a rocky, mid-tempo track that has already gone onto radio playlists on both side of the Atlantic. 11 was recorded largely in hotel rooms and backstage dressing rooms around the world during the past two years and features the return of his long time collaborator Jim Vallance on three cuts. The Adams/Vallance partnership was responsible for many of Bryans classic hits including Heaven, Summer of 69 and Run To You.. Universal.

ブライアンの音楽を久しぶりに聞いた。
おおらかで、伸びやかな感じは、どっぷり聞いていた「Reckless」の頃と変わらない印象。
お馴染みのソングライティング陣との共作は、奇をてらうことも時代に合わせようということもなく、
あくまでブライアンらしく素直で親しみやすい曲ばかり。

どの曲でも、ベースの音がつぶ立った音色でタイミングがジャストなせいか、ボトムがタイトで良い。
そして、「ニーヴのビンテージデスク(コンソール？)を使って各トラックの録音をした」と書いてあるのでなるほどなのだが、
どの電気楽器、生楽器の音もまろやかで暖かみのある音であり、味わいのあるサウンドに仕上がっている。
８「Mystwrious Ways」は2005年にツアー中のホテルでベーシックトラックを録ったそうだ。
現在のバンドの面々とのこの１曲に、今のブライアンの充実度が良く現れているように思う。

まだまだクリエイティヴで、”昔の名前で出る”気はさらさらないようだ。
いいねえ。

聴けば聴くほど、かっこいい。
大人の、渋い、だけど気合いが入った、ガキのロック（もちろんいい意味で）だ。
ブライアン自身が、オレは死ぬまで18歳と言っているし。
特にスライドギターがいいねぇ。
タイトで推進力のあるリズム・セクションと、スライドギター。
そしてシンプルな演奏というところは、
『Lowyers in love』の頃のジャクソン・ブラウンみたいです。

ほとんどバンドメンバーや録音スタッフが、デビュー以来一定している彼だが、
そのキャリアの中でも集合離散はある。
しかしこの「11」で、
「時代ごとに彼のキャリアを側面から支えてきた最重要メンバーが、
デビュー28年目にして初めてひとつの作品を作り上げている」。
そこから生れてくる、音のまとまり感、親密さ、
ブレのない確信・手応え感なのだ。


ジャケットワークもシンプルでいさぎよい。
ギターを持っている男の写真はブライアン本人によるもの。
ＣＤを撮りだすと、ギターの男は素晴らしい笑顔に変わる。

このへんに、このアルバムの本質部分が出ているのかもしれない。

自分はブライアン・アダムスのオリジナル・アルバムを「レックレス」以来、全て買って
いますが、「ウェイキング・アップ・ザ・ネイバーズ」まではどちらかと言えば
ハードな曲が多かったように思います。「18 TIL I DIE」からはソフトでじっくり聴かせる
曲が多くなったように思います。この「11」も1、2曲目以外は全体的にソフトな曲が
多いです。ブライアンは今回、ほとんどの曲でアコースティック・ギターを弾いています。
音に関しては昔に比べて変わりましたが、聴いていてホッとするアルバムです。
やっぱりブライアン・アダムスは良いですね。
