VisualStudio 2005 Standard Editionから乗り換えたサンデープログラマです。
事前に確認をしておかなかった私も悪いですが、2005で可能であったWindowsCE/Mobile開発環境がProfessional以上になったことが非常にショックです。
携帯端末の開発をしているサンデープログラマは確かに少数派でしょうが、価格面で一気に敷居が高くなってしまったことが残念でなりません。

新しい機能であるワークフローなどはおそらく企業など組織内でしか必要が無いと思われますので、サンデープログラマにとってStandard Editionとしてお得感があるのは、現状ではVisual Studio 2005の方に軍配があがると感じています。

Vistaで利用できない「VC++ .NET Standard 2003（Win XP環境）」から乗換。

廉価・無料版の開発環境から対応したx64アプリケーション開発に注目して購入。
私は、発売日からずっとVista x64 Editionを利用していました。
しかし、既製品のx64対応アプリケーションが少ないことを少々残念に思っていました。

最近では、徐々に対応も進んでいる気がしますが、これで、x64対応アプリケーション開発の
敷居が一層低くなると期待できます。

また、各「Express Edition」で利用できなかった「ATL」「MFC」「リソースエディタ」など
、便利な機能が利用可能なことも嬉しいです。

開発者ライセンス（開発、設計、構築、テスト、デモンストレーションの用途を条件に、1
つのライセンスで、1 人のユーザーが複数のコンピュータにインストールして使用できる。
(シングルユーザーライセンス)）

4.0 out of 5 stars 位置づけが微妙になったものの、やはり一押しの製品, 2008/12/30
ライバルのエンバカデロ・テクノロジーズ社が低価格の個人向け製品に注力していない傾向もあってか、本製品は、個人で購入できるWindows OS用ソフトウェアの有償開発環境としては、唯一お勧めできる製品といえる。開発環境として備える機能は、個人向けでは十分すぎるほど充実しているし、価格の面でも、頑張れば手を出せる値だからだ。

バージョンアップにより、AJAXコントロールの標準実装、ATL・MFCの利用が可能な点、そして、データベースエンジンの制御に柔軟性を持たせた機能「LINQ」が制限なく使える点など、機能面の強化が図られたことはうれしい。しかし、Windows Mobile用ソフトウェアが開発できないなど、以前のバージョンと比べて「万能性」が薄らいだ点や、無料で利用できるExpress版の機能が強化されている点を鑑みると、本製品の位置づけが微妙になっている点は否めない。

それらのことから判断すると、Express版の機能では物足りないが、Professional版の高機能と高価格に躊躇する方に用意されたステップアップのための製品といえる。

なお、PC/XBOX用ゲーム開発環境「XNA」を利用されている方は、XNAのバージョンが「3.0」以上のものが提供されていることを確認してから、本製品を導入されたい。
