そこのあなた！、迷わずこれをカートに入れてチェックアウトしなさい。
考えられる限り史上最高の低価格＆良質＆完全未発表満載2枚組ＣＤが、ここに堂々誕生。
私はこれ聴いて、2週間ほど出血が止まらん。

Disc 1 ：
1-3. 誰も聴いたことがない、ジェリー・ウェクスラー（当年91歳！）に送られたデモ。そう、ボーカルは楽器なのだ！まるでアレサの歌入れを覗き見してるかのような、マスターの保存状態の良さ。早くもこの2枚組のハイライトにして目玉が炸裂、その後のアトランティック黄金期を決定づけたというこの3曲を堪能あれ。こんなの送られてきたら、誰でも即契約するわ。ちなみに3はコロンビアでの録音と聴き比べが可能。
4-18. アトランティック・デビュー盤　aretha arrives からyoung gifted and black までの存在すら知られていなかった珠玉ボツテイクの数々。やや強引なシナトラのmy way 、かなりイケてるビートルズのthe fool on the hill 、驚き想定内のＪＢのit was you 、意外な爆弾you keep me hangin' on （デュアン・オールマン入り！）などカバー曲攻撃が凄い1枚目。シングルＢサイドのみ10.18の2曲の出来が、改めていいと確認。

Disc 2　：
1.　このrock steadyだけでも買い、バーナード・パーディーのドラムも凄いが、この曲の核になっているのは、ダニー・ハーザウェイのオルガン。曲は彼の作ったフレーズを発展させた（ライナーより)1-3までは、ほぼフィルモアライブのメンバーで究極のセッションワークを堪能出来る。
2-11. young gifted and black からhey now hey までのボツテイク。つまりクインシー・ジョンズとのhey now hey は、2枚組のボリュームの録音があったことが判明。10のレナード・コーエンのsuzanne に仰け反る。2.3なども、アルバムに入らなかったのが不思議なくらいクオリティーが高いプロダクション・ワーク。
12. デューク・エリントンをレイ・チャールズと。ＣＢＳテレビの企画ものだが、今回初めて聴いた。時期的に、エリントン特別番組の可能性も。
13-16.　後半はアルバム　let me in your life からの4曲。ボビー・ウォマックの16が渋い！
17.　70年代初期のデモテイク。詳細が不明だけに、この最後の謎は深まる・・・。


無意味な箱にするでもなく、小出しにするでもない、ただ未発表の良質なテイクを厳選したライノレーベルの最高の仕事がここにある。ブックレットも写真とオイシイ逸話がたんまりだ。

”クイーン・オフ・ソウル”アレサ・フランクリンが、文字通り女王だったアトランテイック時代の未発表曲集。デビューアルバムの"I Never Loved A Man...",セカンドの"Aretha Arrives", 続く"Aretha Now", "Soul'69", "This Girl In Love With You", "Spirits In The Dark", "Young, Gifted And Black", "Hey Now Hey(The Other Side Of The Sky)", "Let Me In Your Life"からの選曲。歴史的なマッスルショールズスタジオミュージシャン達との邂逅から始まって、ニューヨークでのダニー・ハサウェイらとのセッション、有名なクインシー・ジョンーズとの問題のレコーデイング等が音源。曲順はクロノロジカルとなっている。あのリイシュー名請負人ライノからのリリースなので、中身は保証付きだ。
鮮烈なシャウトが眩しいデビュー作のデモから、豪華絢爛なヒットアルバムのアウトテイクやシングル盤の別テイクと、聴いていて飽きさせられない内容となっている。久しぶりに６０年代のアレサを堪能させてもらった。二枚組ＣＤだが、だれるところのない見事な編集ぶりだ。荒々しくも迫力溢れるサウンドに圧倒されるサザン・ソウル的な一枚目、より洗練されたソウルクィーンの堂々たるボーカルがニュー・ソウル・サウンドに映えるの２枚目といった感じかな。
しかし、このアルバムが天地をひっくり返す程に凄いものかと言えば、必ずしもそうではないだろう。当然ながら、この時代のオリジナルアルバムの濃密さには叶わない。残念ながら、絶好調時のソウルクィーンの余りものであることは間違いがない事実。だが、この残りものはそんじょそこらのものとは違って大変貴重だ。アレサのファンには新しい発見が色々とあるはずだ。リハーサルテイクのリラックスした雰囲気やオーバーダブ前のテープの迫力溢れるサウンド。ミックスやボーカル、演奏等の違いによる新鮮さ。目から鱗が落ちるところが多々ある。このゴスペル・クィーンをいかに上手く料理して、ソウルクィーンとして味付けたのか、その秘密のレシピが垣間見れる。
レーベルオーナー兼プロデューサーのジェリー・ウェクスラーのライナーノートも興味深い。（"Let It Be"は元々ポールがアレサに送った曲で、まずアレサが録音したがお蔵入りしていた、しびれを切らしたポールが自分で録音することになったらしい。ウィルソン・ピケットとパーシー・スレッジがスタジオで殴り合い寸前の喧嘩になって、ジェリーが命がけで？止めに入ったなんてねetc.）。未発表曲だけでリリースしてくれたアトランティックとライノにも感謝したい。

デモのセッションが入っているのでお蔵入り（それでも当時の彼女は素晴らしいので,ある程度の水準は期待していたが）セッションの寄せ集めだろうぐらいに思ってお気楽に聞き始めたが、驚いた！Disc1の１，２、３は確かにデモではあるがこのほとばしるsoulful singing!!!ノックアウトだ。そしてDisc2のRock Steadyのリズムの素晴らしさ！夢のようなリズムセクション！このミックスで名作アルバムYoung ,Gifted and Blackのリニューアル盤をぜひ聞いてみたい（かなわぬ夢か…）。まあとにかくsoul music fanには素晴らしいプレゼントだ。さあ頑張って英語のライナーノート（写真も素敵）を読もうっと。Must buy!!
