2nd「A Strangely Isolated Place」がエレクトロ・シューゲイザーの名盤ともなったUlrich Schnauss、４年ぶりの3rd。大きな進化はありませんが、そのサイケデリックサウンドを十分楽しめます。全体的にヴォーカルが押さえ気味で、シンセ主体のサウンドになっている所が異なるところでしょうか。

2ndで顕著だったのがエレクトロニカゆえのノリの良さ。シューゲイザーはややもすると上物ばかりに比重が行ってリズム隊が弱いとの印象がありますが、エレクトロ・シューゲイザーは違い、打ち込みによってリズムを力強くすることも可能。このアルバムでもその力強いリズムプログラミングは健在で、ノリ良く楽しめます。

そんな中でもディレイギターが印象なダウンテンポの＃４は甘露。それに続く＃５もダウンテンポで、今度はシンセの音が陽炎のように揺らめきます。＃７は本作のベストトラックか。素直なエレクトロ・シューゲイザーが繰り広げられます。エフェクトを掛けられたウィスパーヴォイスのメロディーが切なく、快感極まりないです。

硬軟取り混ぜた曲配置の良さは、さすが第一人者です。BGMとして何となく流しておくことも、聞き込んで細かいエフェクトなどを楽しむことも出来、これは新定番の誕生かと感じさせられます。

前作がお気に入りだった方、エレクトロ・シューゲイザーのファンの方には大推薦の一枚です。オリジナルシューゲイザーのファンの方が聴いたらどんな感想を持たれるんでしょうか。シンセ主体・エフェクト使いまくりで構成される分厚い音群は最初は違和感を覚えるかも知れませんが、填ってしまえば快感極まりないと思います。

ウルリッヒは、作品によりテイストの違いはあれど、リスナーの期待をはずさないアーチストをだと思う。彼のよう名タイプのアーチスト活動は賛同できるものだし、応援したくなる気持ちにさせられる。本作は、彼のアルバムの中では、特に特徴的な作品では無いと思われるが、エレクトロニカ、ジャーマンテクノ好きならば押さえておくスタンダードなタイプのサウンド集になっていると思う。
