KAMELOTなどと同様、アメリカ産とは到底思えぬ叙情メロディを武器に知名度を上げてきたネオ・クラシカル・プログレッシヴ・メタルバンドの７ｔｈ。

単刀直入に言って、素晴らしいの一言。
前作からの４年という期間も瞬時に忘れさせる力作だ。

５ｔｈ「Ｖ」〜６ｔｈ「THE　ODYSSEY」と顕著だった大作志向は若干薄まり、その分、初期作品にあったようなわかり易いメロディが増えているのが本作の特徴。端的に言うと３ｒｄと６ｔｈを足して２で割ったような感じかな。前作よりシンプルになった分、メロがダイレクトに響いてくる。

疾走曲やミドル、スロー曲のバランス、配置が絶妙で、コンセプト・アルバムの形はとっていないにも関わらず作品全体の雰囲気的なまとまりが見事。
一度聴き始めたら抜け出せない魔力を秘めたアルバムである。

また、どの曲もそれぞれに魅力があり、彼らの全作品中、最も楽曲の粒が揃っていると感じる。
その中でも、イントロのベースフレーズからダイナミックにユニゾン疾走する＃３“Domination”、名曲“Accolade”に通じるリリシズムを発散するタイトル・トラック＃５“Paradise　Lost”、彼らにしてはやや風変わりなリフの＃６“Eve　Of　Seduction”、彼らの持つ疾走曲の中でも屈指のスピードとダイナミズムを誇るネオクラ・チューン＃８“Seven”は特に強力な仕上がり。

てかホント、メンバー全員上手すぎ゜(ノ'Д`)

このテのバンドにありがちな自己満的な複雑さになり過ぎず、かといって十分過ぎるほどテクニカルなフレーズを、起伏に富んだダイナミックな楽曲展開のなかで、メロディの旨味を壊さないようにサラリと差し込む、まさに破綻箇所皆無の演奏技術は、聴いててただひたすらに呆れ続けるしかない次元(;ﾟдﾟ)
ラッセル・アレンも各プロジェクトに参加したことでさらに上手くなったか、声の静と動の幅が広がり、高い音圧とテクニックを誇るバック陣に全く埋もれておらず、見事にこのダークな世界観を表現しきっている。

いや〜、全くもって恐れ入ったm(__)m

個人的には確実に０７年度Ｍｙベスト盤を争うであろう一枚。

彼らの作品は、デビュー時から楽しんでいますが、確実に前作のクオリティーを越えてくる唯一のバンドではないでしょうか。「ファイブ」を聴いたときの衝撃は、もうこのバンドは「才能を出し尽くしたかな」と思えるほど完成度が非常に高く、強力な５作目で日本ライブも実現、世界的にも認められる強力バンドとなり多忙を極めたか新作のペースが落ちてきた。６作目「オデッセイ」は５作目の高いハードルをいとも簡単に越えてしまった。彼らのアルバムに駄曲は存在しない。６作目はまさに全曲パーフェクト。しかも、他のＨＭバンドにありがちな方向性の変革は全くなし。デビューから一貫してネオクラシカル・プログレ・パワーメタルを貫き進化している。なんというクリエイティブ集団だろう。で、今回の７作目「パラダイスロスト」はまたまた前作の高いハードルを大きく越えてしまった。レコーディングスタジオを「シンフォニーＸダンジョン」からプロスタジオへ変わった結果、録音のクオリティーが驚くほど向上。楽曲はさらに進化し、ブラインドガーディアンの飛躍作「イマジネーション」への進化に近い、６作目からの進化は４年半のうちに彼らをさらなる高みへ。プログレメタルの世界で最高峰のバンドであることを確実に証明するであろう最高傑作である。はじめてこのバンドにふれる方も、ファンの方も確実に買いでしょう。こういうバンドが大きな成功を収められる、そんな世の中になった欲しいものである。

アルバム全体を通して聴くために、しっかりとした曲構成、緩急をしっかりとつけた、聴きごたえのある作品に仕上がっています!アグレッシヴな楽曲や歌い方が多い点は前作の様な感じはあるが、ますますラッセルのボーカルは技術面でも向上していますね。更にメロディの良さは前作を遥かに凌ぎます!!音造り一つにしても過去最高のプロダクションで聴かせてくれている点も無視出来ません。煌びやかで時には剛直でそれでいて、バラード調から始まる曲等を随所に巧く散りばめている。消化不良の一切無い、流れの良さを本当に感じさせてくれます。プログレッシヴなメタルを理解し辛いと思っている方にも、聴きやすく、敷居がそれ程高くないと思います。この機会に是非聴いてみてはいかがでしょうか?
