【物語】
時は天保14年。
江戸の町を異界の獣「妖夷(ようい)」が襲う。それに立ち向かうは「蛮社改所(ばんしゃあらためしょ)」のメンバーたち。
記憶を失った男や男装の少女など得体は知れないが、それぞれに妖夷を討つための特別な力を有している。彼らに与えられたコードネームは「奇士(あやし)」。

   黒船ペリーの来航のちょうど10年前、最後の江戸時代と呼ばれる天保14年。異界からやってくるといわれる妖夷を人知れず退治する奇士と呼ばれる部隊が幕府の配下に結成されていた――。主人公・竜導往壓はかつては侍だったが、異界の力に触れた恐怖から、逃亡している人物。彼が奇士となり、ふたたび人生に立ち向かうまでを、丹念に描いているのが、このDVD第1巻。当時の江戸風俗を緻密に描いているため、湯屋（お風呂屋）の光景や商店街の賑わいといった、江戸の日常を垣間見ることができる。往壓の必殺技は、漢字から力を取り出す「漢神」という能力。言葉や漢字のなりたちを知ることもできて、ちょっとお勉強にもなる、“脳を鍛える”伝奇アクションだ。（志田英邦）

とりあえず、作品自体は時代劇というよりファンタジー系。今までにない全く新しい設定(ストーリーやキャラクター・主人公の武器・敵等)なので好き嫌いはあるかもしれませんが、一話一話の作りが丁寧に作りこまれています。
説一での終わり方の衝撃は今でも忘れません。『なんだこれは?』と思うような感じですが違うんです。最初、僕はこれは一話だけで十分だなと思っていたのですが、その一話目のあまりの中途半端さにいつの間にか2話目を見てしまっていて、そのうちにハマってしまっていました。
「今後、どう話が展開していくのだろう」「あの妖夷(敵)っていうのは結局何なんだ?」「しかも、倒した妖夷を食べちゃってるよ」
だとか考えさせられるのです。毎回、エンディングに入るところもいいですね。いいとこで終わりのポルノグラフィティのエンディング曲は卑怯ですね。最初見た時から考えるとまるで嘘のようにこれは実に面白い作品だと言うことに気が付きました。(おそらく、この手のものは少しでも興味がないと駄目かもしれないですが…‥)

10話目以降になってくるともっと話が面白くなってくるのですが、とにかく一話一話が大事なので逃せられません。話が深いです、軽い気持では見れないですね。毎回『えぇっ』て感じです。
是非興味がある方は見てみて下さい

　中年のおじ様方が主役と訊いて、大変楽しみにしていたアニメなのですが、絵が・・・。素敵なミドルは大好きですよ。藤原さんも三木さんも小山さんも(CV)大好きです。
　でも、あの絵は受け付けない。おっさんなのに睫毛ぱっつんぱっつんって・・・。目がでかくてキラキラって・・・！渋いオッサンじゃない！！
　話はなかなか面白いので、途中まで我慢して見ていましたが、無理でした。

一見、よくある妖怪退治ものかと思っていたが、丁寧な時代背景と話に少し驚いた。お化け退治そのものは子供向き。しかし、話の内容は時代小説並みで、かなり奥が深い。良い作品だと思う。
