キャロル解散後、独自の音楽を追及してきた矢沢氏。
キャロルのイメージを振り切りたい同氏が、ソロ通算４枚目のアルバムでついに
矢沢ワールドを世間に認めさせた重要な作品。
ロックンロール色のイメージが強い同氏だが、『時間よ止まれ』のヒットで
バラードの矢沢をアピールできたことでも貴重な作品。
この作品を発表した数年後、同氏は渡米し音楽にも変化が訪れることから、
私はこの作品を『矢沢永吉第１期集大成』と呼びたい。

音に関しては、期待していたよりもクリアさに欠けるかなと感じたので☆４つ
ですが、アルバムのクオリティーの高さが素晴らしいので文句なしの☆５です。

『さめた肌』、矢沢永吉楽曲史に燦然と輝く名曲ですよ

「さめた肌」は名曲中の名曲。「今日の雨」は佳作。「ゴールドラッシュ」はインパクト抜群の思わず唸る曲。（この曲を聞いて家出した人もいるというのも頷けます。）
「昨日を忘れて」は西岡恭蔵の自分の奥さんに対する心情が表現されている。（自身は奥さんに先立たれ、自らも命を断ってしまったことを考えるとこの曲はせつない。）「長い旅」は矢沢の当時の奥さんに対する私情を歌い上げた山川啓介詞による名曲。
矢沢永吉黄金期に創られ流行を超越した永遠かつ普遍性を兼ね備えた名盤。当時を知るファンが愛して止まない傑作アルバム。

実は一点ものだ。「さめた肌」以外は聴き所なし。ジャケットこそ星を吐いて煌びやかだが、中身はむしろ、吐きつくした後の空虚の哀しみを感じる。憂鬱な重さを深みと採る人もいようが、それはこの作品が売れたという事実から、錯覚あるいは逆算しての評価だと思う。新しいファンの人で、矢沢の過去の作品も聴いてみようとした時、大ブレイク作だからといって、これを手にしてはいけない。一番最後でいい。入門編ならば、「ドアをあけろ」か「Ａ・ＤＡＹ」が最適だ。僕自身は「さめた肌」に、その日の気分で「ゴールド・ラッシュ」か「長い旅」の計２曲しか聴かない。（因みに「時間よ止まれ」は、別ヴァージョンのものを聴く。）
