ギレリスは鋼鉄のピアニストと呼ばれていますが、決して冷たく硬い演奏をしているわけではないです。非常に力強く、かつ美しい演奏が特徴だと思います。

ベートーヴェンのピアノ・ソナタは、バックハウス、アラウ、ホロヴィッツなど他にも素晴らしい演奏がありますが、どれも完成度は非常に高く、最後は聴く人の好みでどれがベストか決まるでしょう。もちろん、どれも素晴らしいので甲乙付け難いというのはありますが。

このCDは非常に安くて内容も充実しているので、超お勧めです。

作曲家に対するイメージというのは人様々と思いますが、ギレリスのピアノは、まさに私がベートーヴェンに抱くイメージそのものなのです。例えば、月光の第三楽章。猛烈な疾走感、「鋼鉄の巨人」のイメージそのものの強烈な打鍵、冷たく硬質なピアノの音が、行き場のない激情をピアノに叩きつけるベートーヴェンの姿を彷彿とさせるのです。”巨匠”といわれるピアニストでしばしば「アレッ？」と感じるくらいの不自然なテンポ・ルバートが聞かれますが、ギレリスの演奏は、もちろん歌うところはキッチリ歌っていますが、自制の効いた演奏とでもいいましょうか、押しつけがましいところが全くない、何の違和感なく耳に入ってくる自然体の演奏です。”ミスター・ベートーヴェン”の演奏が存分に堪能できるこの名盤がたったの1000円とは安すぎ！。収録曲も3大ピアノソナタと言われる、悲愴、月光、熱情と言うこと無し！。ベートーヴェンのピアノソナタのゴールドスタンダードとして、このCDは絶対にお勧めです。

　ギレリスは疑いもなく最高のベートーヴェン弾きの一人である。彼の弾くベートーヴェンは硬質で水晶のような輝きを持ち、繊細でありながら力強い。まさに「鋼鉄のピアニスト」の異名にふさわしい演奏揃いである。このＣＤは７２年から没年８５年までにギレリスがドイツグラモフォンのもとで録音を続けていた全集から、「悲壮」「月光」「熱情」の所謂三大ソナタを抜粋したものである。ギレリスの突然の死により全集は完成することなく終わってしまいましたが、堅牢で強固なギレリスの精神が遺憾なく発揮された演奏だと思います。特に私が大好きな「月光」は、厳寒の日の夜空に浮かぶ月のような第一楽章から、嵐のようでそれでいて透明感の損なわれていない第三楽章まで、本当にギレリスならではの名演です。ギレリスのベートーヴェンソナタには、６０年代のライブ録音もあり、こちらの迫力もまた素晴らしいものがあります。この演奏を聴いて興味を持ったら、是非聴いてみてください。
