チラシ一枚の美しさからこの映画に興味を持ち、そして最後の最後までその期待は裏切られなかった。男性の一途な想いが、紆余曲折しながらも、病的な方向ではなく、美しい、ほんとうに美しく昇華されてゆく。打算無しに、愛するものにただ尽くすことも男の生きがいなのかもしれない――人より傷つき、また傷つけられ、苦悩しながらも、その生き方を貫く男性の姿に、共感と敬意の涙。そして、この物語のヒロインたりえた女性も素晴らしい。この映画と出会えてよかった。素直に思える。

1人の女性を生涯愛し続けたノア、すごい！
愛する女性を行かせた彼女の婚約者、すごい！
娘に自分の昔の恋を語ってあげたお母さん、すごい！
泣きました。愛って素敵☆☆

公開当時『世界の中心で愛を叫ぶ』と同じ文脈で紹介されていたので、当初は無視していたのですが、ジーナ・ローランズ目当てに見てみたら、意外な展開。若者同士の恋愛描写は普遍的で、それゆえ陳腐でしたが、これは前ふりです。メインは老夫婦のやり取り。ようやく記憶を取り戻した妻に抱き着こうとする夫。しかしその記憶は再び闇の中へと消え去り、妻は夫を激しく拒絶する…このシーンの切なさはちょっと比類がありません。ジーナ・ローランズは、夫や息子の演出下だと信じられないくらい素晴らしい演技を見せます。今社会問題となっている介護問題を含め、本当の愛の在り方を素直に考えさせられます。ヒネクレ者の自分も号泣しました。
