スウェーデンから5ピース ポストロックバンドEFのデビューアルバム

テーマは「生と死」

美しく、激しく、切ない、壮大な物語

Mogwai 、 Explosions In The Sky直系の轟音かつ綺麗なギターにチェロやアコーディオン、メロディカ、オルガンなどを効果的に用いたエクスペリメンタルな作品。

曲のアレンジが非常にうまいです。
このバンドの生命線とも言えるチェロを使うことで高揚感をだし。
絶妙にかけ合う男女混声ヴォーカルを目立ちすぎないようにいれ。
轟音フィードバックで壮大に曲をもりあげる。

ジャケットも素晴らしく、夕暮れ、雲がかかった山、空を優雅に舞う白い鳥
この作品の壮麗なスケール、静寂、壮大さをうまく表現できていると思う。

クラシカルでメランコリックな雰囲気はさすがスウェーデンバンド。
デビュー作にしてこのクォリティ。傑作です。

先に紹介したComradeともレーベルを同じくするスウェーデンの5人組ポストロックバンド、EFのデビューアルバム。

鳴動する大地の気配
雄大に揺れ動き
震える空気

あらゆる事物を包み込むような広がりのあるその音は、Sigur Rosの再来とも称される。サウンドの基幹部分を成すギター/ベース/ドラムによるアンサンブルは、北欧バンドに特有の凛とした空気と感傷に満ちた風景を描き出していく。そして全編に渡って織り込まれるチェロの美しい旋律。人間の声域に最も近いと言われるこの弦楽器を効果的に用いながら、アコーディオンやメロディカの牧歌的な音色とともに美しく、幻想的な世界を創造していく。時折思い出したかのように歌われる、男女混声ヴォーカルが育むノスタルジーもまた非常に魅力的。

ピュアな音因子がもたらす昂揚、万能感、喜びといった感情を最大限にまで引き出すEfの音楽。そのアプローチ自体は極めて正統的なものでありながら、限られたバンドにとってしか成しえない、幽玄的で壮大なスケールを描き切ることに成功している。センチメンタルな音の明滅から、直情的にバーストする轟音パートに至るまで、徹底的に純朴で、美しい光に満ちた作品。

とても魅力的なジャケが印象的なスウェーデン出身の5人組バンドの1st(2006年作)。

ポストロックとして日本には紹介されてはいるものの、確かにその要素も含むけれど、もっと壮大でエモーショナルなうねりのあるメロディや展開をしている。だから、僕はトータスとかマイス･パレードなんかよりも、どちらかというとマーキュリー・レヴやフレイミング･リップスのほうに近いように感じた。まあ一番、近いのはアイダかなと思う。それはメロディがとにかく切ないということ。アイダのようなコーラスの妙というのはなんが、スローな曲をじわじわと盛り上げていくような方法が、とても近いなと思った。アイダよりも大作主義なので、その点においては、こちらのが強烈な盛り上がり方を見せる。これが1stアルバムということだが、実力のあるバンドが3枚目、4枚目で見せるようなテンションの高さと完成度を感じた。これは本当にすごいことなのだが、2作目以降どのようなアルバムを作っていくのか、少し不安にもなった。
