　D#チューニングのせいでしょうか。前作、前々作に比べ、「Divine〜」以前の
スラッシュ的要素が強くなった気が。曲は短くてスピーディー。かつパンキッシュな曲が増えている。名作「Reign〜」の「Piece by Piece」や「Necrophobic」あたりに、本作の曲が収録されていても不思議じゃない曲が多いのでは。ただ、あえて悪く言うなら、キメ曲があって初めて映える曲…という感じは否めない。それと、デイヴの復活がかなり大きいウエイトを占めている。ポールの機械的でフラットな音と違い、奥行きと立体感のあるサウンド作りが戻り、オリジナルメンバーである意義をヒシヒシと感じさせてくれる。とにかく聴く者を圧倒するというより、予測不能なオカズを随所に入れて聞き手を突いてくるあたりは、彼の持ち味が発揮されているのでは。
　アルバム全体を聴くと、SLAYERはスゴイということは伝わる。しかし、昔のような鳥肌モノのリフが少ないのが少し残念。贅沢な要求ですが…。Testamentでデイヴが魅せたブラストビートを、最期の曲「Supremist」で炸裂している点はしびれます。それと、エンディングのフェードアウト気味に終わるギターの音！うっすらと暗黒に包まれていく「Dead skin mask」のエンディングステージの照明効果（初来日と二回目の来日）とダブルものがあり、鳥肌が立ちました。

帰ってきました。スラッシュ・メタルの帝王、SLAYERが。
新作『CHIRST ILLUSION』を発表しました。前作の『GOD HATES US ALL』の以来の約5年ぶりにSLAYERが戻って来ました。
5年ぶりだというのに全くと衰えていません。おまけにジャケは強烈です(気の弱い人は見ない方が…)。
未だ、余り聴いていないのですが、1曲目の“FLESH STORM”と2曲目の“CATALYST”は、
「さすが!」
と思わせる程にいいです。SLAYERの復活を祝って聴いてください。
帝王SLAYER、復活おめでとう!!

デイブ（Ｄｒ）の大ファンとしては、待ちに待ったアルバムです。
前任者、ポール・ボスタフもメタル界において、追随を許さないほどのスーパープレイヤーだと思いますが、やはりオリジナル・メンバーであるデイブ・ロンバードの参加するアルバムとあっては、特別な感情を抱かずには居られません。
そして、この新作で披露してくれているドラミングは、ヤッパ最高の一言。独特なタメの効いたシャッフルビート、フィル・イン、衰えを全く感じませんでした。
新作の音楽的内容もそこそこファストなナンバーがあり、決して悪くは無いかと。アグレッシブなアプローチは疑う余地も無く、スレイヤーサウンド。そりゃあ確かに、REIGN〜と比較するなら満足出来るとは言えませんが。
しかしながら、20年以上前、誰も思いつかなかった領域の音楽を誰よりも速くプレイし、誰よりも長くプレイし、ファンを決して裏切らない彼等の姿勢は、もはや至宝の存在。言わなくても分かりきってる事でしょうけど。
敢えて言うなら、我々が20年前に受けたあの衝撃は、確かに、二度と味わえないかもしれません。けど、20年以上愛する事が出来るだけのアティテュードを携えているバンドなのは、断言出来ます。ラウドなヤツが好きなら、SLAYERを知らない人達にも是非、本作を聴いて頂きたいです。ラウドでエクストリームな音楽のパイオニアとも言えるし、20年以上経った今、尚、最前線で変わらぬスタイルでプレイし続けるバンドのファンに対する彼等の、信念の塊のようなアルバムだと思います。
