西海岸サーフ・カルチャーの、ゆるりとした気分を運んでくれる人気シンガー・ソングライター、ジャック・ジョンソンのニュー・アルバムは世界中で読まれている絵本『Curious George』のアニメーション映画のサウンドトラック。日本では『ひとまねこざる(おさるのジョージ)』というタイトルで親しまれている絵本が、どんな作品になるのか楽しみだが、驚いたのは主人公ジョージ役としてジョンソンが声優に初挑戦することで、それにも興味津々だ。新曲9曲をこの作品のために書き下ろしたという肝心の音楽の方は、ジョンソン節と言えるアコースティックを基調にしたフォーキーなサウンド。ジョンソンの温かく広がりのある歌とギターからは、波間に見える柔らかな光と果てしない水平線が浮かんでくるよう。ベン・ハーパー、G・ラヴ、元スケーターの新人シンガー、マット・コスタも参加した曲や日本盤のボーナス・トラックに収録されたマニー・マークのリミックスも聴きものだが、子供たちとのハートフルな共演曲が最高。 (長屋美保) --- 2006年02月号

正直彼の作品は全然聴いたこと無いんですが、テレビで見たUpside DownのPVとアートワークに惹かれて買いました。

このアルバムはもちろん映画のサントラとして発表されたので、映画の雰囲気がただよっているようなのですが、聴いてて楽しいですね。無駄な音をほとんど使っていなくて、スーッと耳に心地よく入ってきます。彼の声にもとても癒されるので、他のアルバムも聞きたくなりました。
お勧めは１．Upside Down、Happyなサウンドがジャングルっぽい雰囲気。PVではもちろんジョージや森の仲間たちが登場します。必見！3．People Watchingはじけるリズムが心地よい、歌詞もいいです。７．We're Going to be Friends、タイトルそのまんま友達になろうよって話です。11．With My Own Two Hands、Ben Harperとのデュエット、優しい歌ですが、僕の二つの手で世界を変えられるって内容です。

アートワークもすばらしいです。いたるところにおサルのジョージと仲間たちがいます。歌詞カードをひらくと彼らの世界に引き込こんでくれる、カラフルでかわいらしいイラストが！まるで絵本のようです。たまらん！作者が亡くなっているので、書き下ろしでないと思うのですが…。ちなみにリサイクル紙を使っています。う〜んエコロジー。

サウンドも含めて大変楽しいCDでした。満足です。

ＪＪのレビューが、彼を批判しないのに支持されないのは、ＪＪの存在が日

JJのニューアルバム。楽しみにしていました。
おさるのジョージという絵本が映画化され、そのサントラということで、前作までの哀愁漂うイメージとは違って全体的にPOPな感じ。
子供も一緒に楽しめるアルバムになっていると思います。
GラブやBハーパーらも参加しているのでかなり豪華！買って損はないです。

ただ、次回のアルバムは哀愁JJに戻って欲しいので☆４つにしました。
