原題は「proof」
方程式の証明。そして自分自身が正常かどうかの証明。
天才数学者の父を持ち、その才能を受け継いでいながら
父が持つ精神疾患も受け継いでいることに思い悩む主人公。

すごく良かった。少なくとも今の自分にとっては。
テーマがどうであれ、主人公の最後の台詞にあるように、
「振り出しに戻って一つずつ一つずつやっていこう。きっと良くなるはず」
ここにこの映画の全てがあるように思う。
僕はこの作品を観て、とても勇気づけられた。
自分のことを「狂っているんじゃないか？」と少しでも疑っている人がいたら、
是非観てほしい。助けられます。

グウイネスの演技が光ります。２７歳の役、精神的に追い込まれる役。深く心に伝わってきます。実生活では母親なのに、微塵も感じさせない。美しい！・・・・精神を蝕まれた偉大な数学者である父の影、自分の狭い視野の中でしか物事を判断しようとしない姉、そして、心を許し始めた若き数学者からの不信。人間が、自分以外の人間に理解を求めることは、とても難しいし、狭い判断の中で理解したと思うこともまた、’罪’なのだと考えさせられました。いわゆる、大作ではありませんが、心にしみる作品です。

数学の証明を解く手法を本題の演出に取り入れ、異色のアプローチをしためずらしい作品です。
セリフに堅苦しさがあり、数学的論法に慣れていないとこの作品はおもしろくはないかもしれません。
好き嫌いがはっきりと分かれるかもしれませんね。
それと天才か狂気の沙汰というぎりぎりの稜線を狙って、どっちに転んでもおかしくはないシナリオの流れに沿っているので、真理を見極めようとすると訳が分からなくなってしまう寸前に至ると思います。
ハートフルなこころの動きを示す感情表現がデジタル的に思え、他に類を見ない演出だといえます。
邦題は原題を加味して、”自分の行き方の証明”というコンテンツを理解し易いようにうまく名付けたと思います。
主演のグウィネス・パルトローは、最近では「アイアンマン」、その他に「ハサミを持って突っ走る」、「愛しのローズマリー」などがありますが、この作品は彼女の代表的なもののひとつです。
