あなたの名前がライアン・アダムスでないかぎり、同じ曲でも使い回さなければ、1年に4枚ものアルバムをリリースする習慣はないだろう。だが、1965年のビートルズはまさに同じことをやってのけた。イギリスでリリースされた曲を、アメリカのマーケット向けに新たに短く作り替えるキャピトル・レコードのミキシング手腕のお陰だ。『The Capitol Albums, Vol. 2』は、イギリスでのリリース順に従って、3月に『The Early Beatles』、6月に『Beatles VI』、8月に『Help!』サントラ盤、そして12月に『Rubber Soul』US盤と、ビートルズのスタンダードを初めてモノラルとステレオの両方で収録した。イギリス盤の『Please Please Me』と『Beatles for Sale』はモノラルしかないため、「Please Please Me」、「Twist and Shout」、「Kansas City/Hey Hey Hey Hey」、「What You're Doing」、「Every Little Thing」を始めとする本作収録曲の大半がステレオ録音による初のCD化となっている。また、『Help!』のケン・ソーンの副産物的な音楽(ジェイムズ・ボンドの007シリーズのテーマもイントロとして収録)、ワイドセパレーションのステレオ・ミックスでの『Help!』と『Rubber Soul』(1987年イギリス盤のジョージ・マーティンのデジタル・リミックスではない)の初CD化でもある。92曲中82曲がこれまでCD化されていなかったのだ。『The Capitol Albums, Vol. 1』ほどの音速の啓示はないが(あちらは32曲の初ステレオCD化が含まれていたが、本作では14曲のみ)、聴く価値のあることは間違いない。また、60ページに及ぶ貴重な写真や、ビートルズ研究家ブルース・スパイザーによるライナーノーツ付き。

Japanese Edition of the Second Volume of Digitally Remastered Beatles Albums in their USA Configurations features Slightly Larger Sleeves and Higher Quality Paper that Reproduce the Originals More Accurately Than It's Counterpart in Other Territories. A Critical Difference is that the Original Cover of "HELP" Comes in the Original Gatefold Sleeve, which is an Important Distinction for Collectors. This Version is the "CD Sized" Configuration of the Box (Not the 12x6 Longbox). The Set also Comes with the Standard Photo Booklet Found in Other Territiories (Also Slightly Larger) and a Second Book with Full Lyrics in Both Japanese and English!

EU盤のミックス間違えは話題になっていましたが、
このUS盤も間違え盤でした。

アマゾンに問い合わせたところ、メーカーの意向でこの
商品を正規の商品として販売しているとのこと。
また米国内での販売分は、ミスディスクを交換している
が海外販売分は交換できないそうです。

これから購入される方は、それを納得の上購入下さい。
アマゾンさんもその辺の注意書き入れて欲しいです。

海外では4月に発売されたシリーズ第2弾の日本盤。
今回は65年リリースのものが4枚です。
それぞれステレオ・モノの各バージョンがカップリングされていますが、
海外初版ではミスマスターが使われていましたが、この日本盤では当然修正されたものが
使われています。
海外盤、並びに輸入国内盤のと大きな違いは、紙ジャケットが独自の仕様になっており、
海外では第１弾同様、カードボードスリーヴと呼びたくなるような簡素なつくりでしたが、
日本盤ではオリジナルLPの仕様を再現したものになっています。
表貼りでボール紙を使ったもので、海外ではダブルジャケットが再現されなかった
「HELP!」もオリジナル通りになっています。
海外盤の価格が急激に下がってきた今（'06年6月末）となっては悩ましい価格差ですが、
満足度の差は価格以上だと思います。
外身にこだわらない人は海外盤で、ジャケットを含めた当時の雰囲気を味わいたい方は
日本盤が良いと思います。

先に発売されたＥＵ盤の「6」「Rubber　Soul」のモノナンバーが
オリジナルマスターではなく、ステレオからのミックダウンだったことが
わかり、今Capitolがあわてて作り直し、交換を準備中とのことです。
私が聞いてもどうもこの情報は正しいように思います。
Capitolのミスだったのか、わざとだったのかはわかりませんが。
普通に欲しい人はその辺の事情がわかってからにした方がよいのでは。
レア盤狙いの人は逆に今買っとかないと入手不可能となる可能性があります。
そういう訳で現段階では評価不能で星ゼロ
