ストーンズの歴史の中で,一番技術的に充実していた時期がテイラーの参加していたこの時期です｡この時期のスタジオ盤を聞けば、以降の彼等の音楽がかなりラフに仕上られている事に気付く人も多いでしょう｡どちらが良いかは人により,また時代によって評価が分かれるのですが,このアルバムに記録された実況は紛れもなく彼等の歴史上で,演奏力の最も高かった時代である事を証明する記録なのです｡「悪魔を･･･」で左右に別れてしのぎを削る二人のソロギターは彼等の音楽には珍しく,心地良ささえ感じる｡
この時代があったからこそ,彼等は後にステージでやりたいほうだいしても文句を言われる事のない超大物バンドになれたのではないかって思ってしまう｡

彼等の実況盤にはそれぞれに色々な特徴が刻まれているのだが,これはテイラーがこの時期彼等に及ぼした影響の大きさを測り知る名演奏ばかりが収められている｡映画よりもアルバムの方に価値を感じる｡

３０年来のお付き合いとなるストーンズの音ですが、一番好きなのはこの頃なんです。
"Beggars' Banquet"、"Let it Bleed"といった傑作をリリースした後のライブであり、選曲も彼らお得意のナンバーがズラリ。彼ら独特の濁りとうねりを充満させながらもまとまりのあるplayがとても魅力的です。
聴き所はどっさりありますが、例えば"Love in Vain"、"Sympathy for the devil"で唸りを上げるKeithのギター、これがストーンズの音だって感じる瞬間。特に後者で聴かれるKeithのソロはストーンズそのものを凝縮したようで戦慄すら憶えます（これに続くMick Taylorのソロもこれがまたいい）。

スタジオワークでの凝った音よりもライブでの音作りを採った彼らの真骨頂として、意気込みと自信がそのまま収められた、ストーンズファンにはタマラナイ作品がこれです。

ストーンズにはライブアルバムがかなりあって、順番に聞いているだけで時代の変遷を感じさせてくれる。その中でも他の追従を許さない最高の演奏を聞かせてくれているのがこのアルバム。その原因は腕達者なミュージシャンが活躍していた１９６９年という時代が一つ。ヒット曲を持っていても演奏力がないと評価されなかった時代であったこと（だから頑張った？）。この時代を乗り切る隠し味がミック・テイラーの加入。特に「悪魔を憐れむ歌」のギターは鳥肌もんです。
