私とピピ&コットの出逢いは、私が高校生の時のことです。
覚えやすくて綺麗なメロディラインとハーモニーが印象的です。
日常的な何気ない風景や心情を歌いながら、その中に力強さや励ましを感じます。
陽気なお兄さん達とギターの上手なお姉さんが奏でるハーモニー。
楽器を持って一緒に歌いたくなるようなアルバムです。
50歳台以上の方には懐かしく、若い方にも新鮮な一枚ですよ。

　エレックレコードの紙ジャケ再発シリーズでのリリースです。ピピ＆コット・・・・（＝「シッコ＆ウンチ」）。しょうがない名前を付けたもんだなぁ、と思いつつ、名前につられて買ってみました。メンバーは女性1人を含む4人で、18歳―21歳という若さ。オトは日本のフォーク調であったり、アコースティック・ブルースやカントリーをベースとした曲があったり、1970年代前半らしい内容で、それなりによいです。ただ、アルバム名が「4人はハーモニー」で、全員がヴォーカルを取るグループだというのに、4人とも極めて音程が怪しく、聴いていて気分が悪くなることも・・・・。歌詞は平凡で退屈です。2曲目の吉田佳子のドブロが18歳とは思えないいい味出しているのが、惜しい！ので★いっこオマケ。
　あんまり関係ないですが；去年、元まりちゃんズのうち二人が組んだユニット藤岡藤巻のライブを見に行ったら、リーダーの金谷氏がバックでギターを弾いていて、びっくりしました。

　1972年10月に発売された当時は、泉谷しげるさんがやたらギターのうまい娘として紹介された吉田佳子さんのいるグループとしてピピ＆コットを覚えている。当時の私にとっては、URCをフォローするのが精一杯の貧乏生活で、エレックまでは手が出なかった。再発されたので購入したのだが、正直言ってがっかりだった。完成度が低い。やりたい音楽がわからない。何を伝えたいのかがわからない。アレンジやバッキングで何とかしようとしているのだが、アマチュアの域だ。そのことが、アルバムになると、統一感のなさに一層際立つ。この辺りが、エレックのレーベルがURCやベルウッドと違うところなのだろうか。ところどころで味わえる吉田佳子さんのプレイワークだけが楽しめる。
