王様のビートルズ直訳集、のはずがオリジナル曲は訳詞の許可が下りず“ビートルズがカヴァーした曲の直訳集+パロディ”というトンチの利いた仕様に。当然のことにように、音はディテイルにいたるまで再現。さらに日本語のコトバ選びによるノリも見事だ。


内容 (「CDジャーナル・レビュー」より)

直訳ロッカーの王様は、ビートルズをやるのが長年の夢だったそうだが、オリジナル曲は原語以外では禁止されているという。ならば“ビートルズがカヴァーした曲のカヴァーならどうだ!”ということになり、念願のリリースにいたったのだ。つまり、収録曲は「長身サリー」とか「月光おじさん」とか初期の作品なのだ(わかるよね?)。ビートルズのパロディもいろいろあるが、王様ならではの機知の利いたニッポン語解釈というか、とにかく思いの強さが伝わってくる力作だ。うーん「Hey 柔道一直線」なんて曲もあって考えさせられる。 (石塚 隆) --- 2006年01月号

　デビュー以来、王様には注目している。即位10周年記念版は以前の録音が大半で、ネタ切れになったかと心配したが、それは全くの杞憂だった。ここでの王様はレノン−マッカートニー以前のロック（ブルース）を絶妙の訳詞で、伸び伸びと歌っている。脱帽です。
次は本格的ジョン・レノンアルバムを頼むぜ。

オタクっぽいアプローチ（[Twist and Shout]エンディングの咳きこみ、とか）もあるけど、内容は言葉選びが絶妙でバックもしっかりしている。単なる完コピよりは楽しいと思うけど完コピ主義のファンやガッチガチのビートルズ至上主義のファンにはたまらなく嫌なんだろうなぁ･･･王様って見た目イロモノっぽいし

APPLEも値打ちこかず、The Beatlesの和訳許可を早く出せばイイのに
あとThe Whoもね

　日本語訳ロックの王様が待望のビートルズをカバーしてくれました。詳しい経緯は王様が語っていますが、いずれも馴染み深い曲ばかり。日本語の歌詞に爆笑しながらも、つくづく王様の歌唱力は素晴らしいと思いました。
　ビートルズを知らない、ごく若い世代がこのＣＤをきっかけに本家ビートルズに興味を示すようになり、単なる冗談音楽に留まらず、王様は伝道師の感があります。「言葉の壁」どころか、言語の違いがあるからこそ堪能できる王様の世界。楽しめること請け合いです。
