作曲家のダニー・エルフマンはたった1年の間に、ティム・バートン監督のために映画2本を担当する充分なネタがあったのだろうか？ 2005年にまず発表された『チャーリーとチョコレート工場』は彼のオールタイム・ベストのひとつで、あの映画に登場する子どもたちそぞれぞに書いた詩は、風刺に満ちたものだった。そのほんの数カ月後、バートンとエルフマンは『The Corpse Bride』で戻ってきた。『The Nightmare Before Christmas』風のストップモーション・アニメだ。今回、エルフマンはやり過ぎたように見えるかもしれない。本人はゴシックな雰囲気を楽しんでいるが（ハープシコードやオルガンの部分では見過ごしようがない）、楽器はやや機械的に感じられてしまう。
このアルバムの聞き所は、エルフマンの小唄がイギリスのトップ俳優陣によってわいわいと歌われるところが聞けること。「According to Plan」でのアルバート・フィニー、ジョアンア・ラムレイ、トレイシー・ウルマン、そして驚くほど感動的な「Tears to Shed」でのヘレナ・ボナム・カーター、ジェーン・ホロックス。エルフマン自身も「Remains of the Day」を歌っている。滑稽になろうとして、少々力を込めすぎている曲だ。滑稽な部分は4曲目、ヴォーカルの曲としては最後の「The Wedding Song」のほうが成功している。軽いオペレッタへの気の利いたパスティーシュだ。だが、最後の4曲、ボーンジャングルズとヒズ・ボーン・ボーイズにクレジットされているもので、エルフマンはようやく自分も楽しんでいる顔を覗かせて、気取らないニューオーリンズ式のジャズではめをはずしている。（Elisabeth Vincentelli, Amazon.com）
