【STORY】
1話から16話までのシリーズ前半の話を中心に、30分にストーリーを凝縮。「ワルシャワ・フィルハーモニーオーケストラ」のサウンドに載せて構成。平和だった竜宮島に、突如金色に輝く敵・フェストゥムが出現。「あなたはそこにいますか・・・」の問いかけとともに、人類は戦いの渦に巻き込まれる。フェストゥムを倒すことのできる唯一の力・ファフナーに搭乗して、一騎は戦いを強いられる。戦うことが日常になっていくことに疑問を抱き、島を出て行く一騎。そして、彼の友総士。様々な葛藤を乗り越えて成長していく、主人公たちの姿を鮮やかに描く。

パッケージ裏の説明を読んで、実際に再生してみて……やられました。
『そーきたかー！』って感じ。
総集編というと話の中から良いシーンを選りすぐって組み合わせたもの、というイメージがありますが、良くも悪くもこれはそうではない。
なんと言っても『セリフ(声)は副音声』というところからして総集編のセオリーを踏み倒しています(笑)。
メインはワルシャワフィルのオーケストラ。チャプターはほぼ楽曲別。
BGMがメインなんです。その証拠に初期設定は音声無し(BGMだけ)。
声無しだと、もう『ワルシャワフィルのミュージッククリップ観てる』ような気分。
なので、
・セリフ無しで映像を観ながら音楽を聴く
・セリフ付きで『総集編』を観る
少なくとも二通りの楽しみ方ができるという、ちょっとお得感が味わえます。

『DVDは全巻持ってるから~』という人にもお勧め。
(かく言う自分も全巻持ってます)

私はDVDを全巻持っているので今回のDVDはどうかなと想います。
というのは、前半の物語を30分で説明なんてはっきり言って無理だと想います。できてもかなりとばして大雑把かと。それにワルシャワフィルの演奏に乗せてということですが、ファフナーDVDの最終巻に特典映像として実際の演奏の映像も見れますし、全巻持っている人にはあまり必要のないものかと思います。むしろこれでは物足りないと思います。でしたらこれから放送される蒼穹のファフナーの続編のDVDを集めていくほうをお勧めします。

DVD全巻持っていましたが、パッケージの総士に惚れたのと安かったので購入しました（笑）
セリフ付きで1回見ましたが、サウンド中心のため、セリフ付きに設定してもすべてのセリフを言っていないので、見たことない人にはよくわからないと思いました。
そしてやはり30分だと短いです。
もう少し長かったらよかったなぁと感じました。
こちらを買うならDVD全巻レンタルしたほうが安いと思いますし、きちんと見るととても感動できる素晴らしいアニメなのでレンタルをオススメします。
