多くの人間がたくさんの夢をみて、そして社会に出て挫折し、どこかで妥協をして生きている。
主人公ジム・モリスも野球人生の途中で挫折してから10数年、テキサスの片田舎で学校の教師として暮らしていた。

　しかし、そんな彼が教えていた野球部の生徒と交わした"約束"を転機に、
大リーグという自分がかつて抱いていた大きな舞台に挑戦する事になる。

　そこに立ちはだかったのは、ケガで野球人生を棒に振った自分の
過去との決別、妻や子どもへの愛と父親としての誇り、家庭を守るという
現実、下部リーグでの苦労。葛藤と苦難を乗り越えて夢を叶えた
ジム・モリスの感動の実話。

人間、年をとると何事にも挑戦しなくなるものです。
何かをやる前に、どうせ出来る訳がないと自分で思ってしまいがちです。
若き日に挫折し、再挑戦で３５歳でメジャリーグのマウンドへ。
普通に考えれば尻込みしてできません。
家族や教え子、地域の人々の応援、人の優しさ美しさにあふれる物語です。
ジム・モリス物語と未公開シーンの特典映像がついてますが、これも良かったです。
是非見てください。

野球少年だったジムは、メジャーリーグにあこがれていた。

しかし、彼に全く理解を示さない父親と、

肩のケガによって、夢をあきらめた･･･。



時は流れて35歳、

高校教師になり、弱小野球部のコーチ。

妻に３人の子供達、

平凡な日常に、夢の事など忘れていた。


生徒が「本気で投げて」の言葉がきっかけだった。

「全力投球は、医者に止められている」と拒んだが、

「一球だけなら」と。

誰もが思っても見なかった

剛速球だった。

中年オヤジの挑戦は、はじまった。

「夢をあきらめるな！」と生徒達に励まされて、

メジャーに挑戦する決断をした。



この物語には、「家族の愛」というテーマがある。

無謀な夢を応援する妻や息子、

そして母親。

昔を悔やんで、

息子の成功を喜んでくれる父親。

そんな家族に支えられて、ジム夢は実現した。


僕は今、主人公と同じ年齢になったが、

「夢に挑戦するのに、遅すぎることはない」と、

励まされたような気がした。

現状に行き詰まっている人は、

是非見て欲しい。


ジムがメジャーのグランドに立ち、

観客席が目の前に広がるシーン、

一瞬、夢が叶った気分が味わえる。
