『Wonderful People』と聞いて、ファンならすぐに「People！People！People！」を思い浮かべるだろう。そうだ、これは、真理さんご自身のセルフプロデュース第一弾『Coquettish Blue』の進化形なのに違いない。

実際、全体がメロウなトーンに包まれ、その意味でも『Coquettish Blue』を彷彿とさせる。

長年アメリカで生活してきた真理さんにとって、本アルバムの前作や前々作が英語圏リスナー向きの作品に仕上がったことをどこかしら自省したのであろう。そのため、本作では日本語を多用して、真理さんなりに昔からのロイヤルなファン向けに、気持ちを込めてこのＣＤを作った様子が感じられる。

歌詞にも、“行間”という語を使った「Unspoken Love」や、“瀬をはやみ…”の百人一首を思わせる「River」といった、切なさ、辛さ、悲しさを訴えかけるものが多い。

「日本語で話しかけていいですか？」と、真理さんはおずおずと日本のファンに伝えたかったのであろう。

飯島真理がジョン・メイヤーのバンド・メンバーなどと作り上げたアルバム。
アルバム毎に異なる顔を見せてくれるアーティストであるが、このアルバムでもまた別の一面を見せてくれる。とは言え、飯島らしい楽曲が収められているので、これまでのファンも違和感なく聴けると思う。
ジョン・メイヤーのバンド・メンバーが飯島の手によってどのように料理されているかに興味のある人にもお勧め！

個人的に「RightNow」はロックテイストが強かったので馴染めませんでしたが今回は飯島真理の王道と言う感じです。海外から流通とのことで時間のレスがあるのが残念ですが、もしかしたら早くも２０作目を作っているのかと思うと楽しみです、「Wonderful People」は本当にポップで明るいナンバーだと思います。同時発売の「Gems」も低価格でベスト盤ということで嬉しい限りです。飯島真理というとどうしてもマクロスのイメージが強いみたいですが自分は「Believe」からのファンなので飯島真理というとすごくポップな曲を作り出すミュージシャンという印象が強いです。
