何度も映画化およびTV化された室生犀星の名作だが、この作品は特に配役が豪華。母親が浦辺粂子、父親が山本礼三郎、長男森雅之、長女京マチ子、次女久我美子なんて、すごいゴージャスな一家ですよね（笑）。
見所はたくさんあるけれど、やっぱり森雅之。無学で自堕落な石工を見事に演じてます。本当にこの人は芸達者な役者さんです。最後のほうの、京マチ子との半ば本気モードの取っ組み合いのケンカもすごい！
東京郊外のロケ撮影も見事。噛むたびに味が出る、スルメのような成瀬
作品。必見です。

｢あにいもうと｣は、｢めし｣から始まる成瀬巳喜男の50年代の傑作群の中でも特に異彩を放っている。それは馴染みのスタッフと離れて大映で撮った作品だからか、室生犀星の原作の持つ荒々しさが成瀬の繊細さと微妙にすれ違ったからだか良く分からない。中絶と、男女や家族の諍いなどはほかの成瀬作品にもよく出てくるけれども、｢あにいもうと｣がそれらと少しちがって見えるのは、真夏のために大きく開け放たれた百姓家の中で演じられる京マチ子の妹と、森雅之の兄のすさまじい乱闘シーンによるものだと思う。このシーンはあの｢羅生門｣の決闘シーンよりも優れていると思う。他にも久我美子が優柔不断な恋人を罵るシーンや、森雅之が妹を妊娠させた船越英二をとっちめた後に、妹に対する深い愛情を吐露するシーンなど、どれも素晴らしい。なによりも驚かされるのは、これらのシーンがすべてセット撮影であることで、それがその前後のカットと完全に調和している。他社で撮ってもこれだけの水準のものができてしまう当時の撮影所の技術の高さと、成瀬巳喜男の演出、京マチ子をはじめとする出演者たちの素晴らしい演技がひとつになった忘れがたい作品。

昭和20年代成瀬巳喜男最盛期の中の一本で、“家族”を題材にした映画としては小津作品と並び立つ名作だと思います。　どんなに罵り合っても、恥ずかしくても、戻ってきてしまうところ、自分の拠り立つところ、愛しているとか何とか言うお上品な言葉ではなく、自分の血肉の属するところ、それが家族であるというテーマ（この作品の場合では、兄と妹という関係を中心にして）がくっきり浮かび上がっています。　　室生犀星の原作は読んだことがないのですが、とにかく水木洋子さんの脚本が見事です。“不器用な愛情”というものをこれくらい見事に表現したシナリオは無いでしょう。　あの森雅之と京マチ子の壮烈な兄妹ゲンカ。　あれ以上の男と女の意地のぶつかり合いを描いたシーンも映画史上恐らく無いでしょう。　

なんといっても達者な役者さんたちがそろってドラマに厚みを加えています。　久我美子さんだけがなんとなく浮いている感が（山本礼三郎の親父さんと浦辺粂子のおふくろさんからなんであの華族のお嬢様然とした子が？）否めませんが、まあ掃き溜めにツルということでかえっていいのかもしれませんね。
