同じ東宝、森繁主演の「駅前」シリーズが庶民派なのに対して、
「社長」シリーズはハイソ志向でした。昭和30年代の田舎の映画館、
東宝映画は2本立て・・

円谷プロ特撮怪獣映画などと抱き合わせで来ていた「社長シリーズ」

子供たちはゴジラ、モスラに満足し、
同伴の親は森繁社長の優雅で、ちょっぴりエッチな生活にあこがれたりしたのでした。

一億国民、総中流を目指してがんばっていた頃の
ある意味、「奥さまは魔女」のようなカルト・ムービーともいえるかもしれません。

シリーズ中、「洋行記」正・続編は小気味よいテンポの速さ、海外ロケの豪華さと出色の作品です。

昨年、テレビ東京で「正編」のみオンエア。続編があるとは知らなかったけど、確かに中途半端な終わり方だった。とにかく映像が綺麗！今まで古びたレンタルや、テレビ放映の粗いプリント状態しか見てなかったのでその鮮やかさには驚きます。特典で公開時のミニポスターや、予告編が収録されてます。芸能人の葬式の時の森繁しか知らない方、この時代の森繁を是非見て！スタイリッシュ＆クールに加えＨパワーも満載です。

実はまだ続編の方は見ていません。ということで正篇についてのレヴューですが、このシリーズの中ではじめて見た作品でした。公開は１９６２年です。国際収支の赤字や外貨の割り当てという会話が時代を反映しています。もうひとつの駅前シリーズは濃厚に戦前の影人間関係の絡みに残していた作品ですが、この作品は舞台が東京（そして香港）となっているせいでしょうか、からっとした笑いが最初から最後まで続きます。再認識したのは森繁の魅力です。恰幅もよく（登場人物の中では一番背も高いようです）、さまざまな服装のセンスもばっちり決まっており、中国語（広東語ではないようですが、そういえば旧満州出身の日本人で香港で北京語を操る人って８０年代の半ばまでは時々見かけましたね）の会話のシーまで含めて、その多面的な魅力がスクリーンに全開されます。香港のロケはこの時代数々の東宝映画で行われているものです。いつもおなじみの啓徳飛行場、ambassador hotel,レパルス湾へのドライヴなどのシーンが満載です。珍しいのは、車を船に載せて九龍から香港島へフェリーで渡るシーンです。草笛光子はいつもおなじみの役割ですが、新珠美千代はこんな役も演じていたのですね。この作品の最大の中心人物は三木のり平です。背広を着た彼はすべてのシーンで会話と筋の潤滑油となっており、彼の存在がなければ、この作品は決してこのような味と軽さを持った喜劇としては成功することはなかったと思われます。途中から彼を消してしまったのは本作品の最大の失策ですね。
