ハービー・マンはジャズファンの間で評判がよくない。いわく「フルートの商売人」「軽薄ジャズの張本人」。デビュー当時こそ、いくつかの名盤を残しているが、その後、商業主義的な売れ線狙いのアルバム制作に終始した。しかし、ジャズ界ではメジャーなサックス、トランペットなどの楽器ではなく、ほとんど誰も演奏しないフルートでは生きてゆくのも大変だっただろう。だから、単純に「軽薄ジャズの張本人」とは言いたくない。さて、このアルバム、重厚ではなく、軽い。しかし軽薄ではない。３曲目の「アパレシダ」など、美しいメロディーだ。しかし、ＢＧＭではある。ＢＧＭではあるが、さすがにテクニシャンのマン、アルバムの出来は悪くない。ＢＧＭで楽しむラテン・フュージョン系のジャズも時には悪くない。（松本敏之）
