特に「痴人の愛」は人間椅子の中でも屈指の名曲だと思う。人間椅子のアルバムの最終曲にしてはシンプルだが非常にドラマチック。暗く緊迫感のある演奏と歌に乗せ、文学的で格調高い詩世界が迫る。しぶいギターソロの後、憂いを帯びた旋律、詩的な表現で切ない光景が描き出され、うつろに虚空を眺めるような感覚に陥り、そのまま足元が崩れて体が沈んでいく…そして最後に激情が溢れ出す怒涛の展開！圧倒される！ただただ虚しく悲しく頽廃的な関係にどこまでも溺れていく。詩・曲ともに芸術的で完璧です！
「洗礼」は重厚、ストレートなHM調。壮大で禍々しい、東洋ならではの終末の情景。大げさなギターソロがうなりまくる人間椅子らしい終わり方もたまらない！「野垂れ死に」は仏教的な匂い、無常観・虚無感のある曲。展開もドラマチックで間奏のブルースハープの入れ方がカッコイイ。「意趣返し」は怨念に満ちた曲。「それでは私外道になります」って詩が好きだ。「道程」は新ドラムのナカジマノブさんが歌う真っ直ぐで疾走感あるロックンロール。「与太郎正伝」は開放感のある曲調。あっけらかんとした曲だが、最後の2行が人生の悲哀を感じさせる。「悪霊」は鈴木さんらしいドロドロした曲。最後の白熱した演奏が良い。「新生」は明るくポップな曲調だが、ドラマチックな曲展開が圧倒するような聞き応えと高揚感を生む。曲だけ見れば「水没都市」と「天体嗜好症」を合わせたような感じ？歌詞は前向きだが単に前向きなのではなく、世界の息吹を感じ世界と一つになり己の存在を感じ…何かの境地に到ったかのような雰囲気があって人間椅子らしいのが良い。「夜間飛行」は変拍子だけど自然に聞けてノリが良い。母なる宇宙へ帰る。「のれそれ」はふにゃふにゃと盆踊りを踊るような曲調。呑気でお気楽。「発射」はストレートで激しい。

再度メジャー昇格後、なんとも冴えなかった人間椅子（僕の主観ですが）。「彼らももう年だしな・・・」と半分あきらめ、それでも新譜を買わずにはいられなかったつらい日々・・・。しかし、とうとう人間椅子が復活した！！確かに路線は変わった。「さては和嶋、恋でもしたか？」と思うほどに。しかし僕の一番の注目は、ラスト曲「痴人の愛」である。これは確かに黄金時代の人間椅子の楽曲である。うれしかった。発売日を指折り数え、メジャー降格に涙を拭ったあのころを思い出した。

　これまで以上に古典的なHRに接近している作品。

　勿論、もともと根っこがそこにあるバンドだから、それはむしろいよいよ本領を発揮してきたということだともいえる。ただ、個人的には「いかにも人間椅子」な曲がここ数作でだんだん減ってきているような気がしなくもない。このアルバムに関してはそのほとんどを鈴木氏のペンによる楽曲に負っている部分が少なくないと感じる。

　とはいえ、それを差し引いても今作がロック・アルバムとして魅力的なのは間違いないだろう。ファンならずとも、ロック好きなら聴いてみてほしい好盤ではある。

　日本屈指のドラマー、後藤マスヒロ氏の穴がきちんと埋まっているかどうかは（難しいかもしれないけど）、ライブを観てみないことには何とも言えないが、今作を聴いた印象のみで判断するならば、新任のナカジマノブ氏は過不足のない良い仕事をしていると思う。
