日本語の文書を音声で読み上げることができるMacOS X対応音声認識/音声合成ソフト。画面に表示された、様々な文書を読むことができる。テキストを選択して、クリップボードに読み込めば、即座に発話をはじめる。声色は全27種から選択でき、それぞれ、高さ、早さ、音量の調節ができる。さらに、音声ファイルを書き出せば、ipodなどで声を持ち出すことも可能。簡単にメールを読み上げる拡張スクリプトなどを無料配布。AppleScripにも対応し、音声認識エンジンも付属している。

~待ちに待っていた日本語の音声合成、認識ソフトのDTalkerがついにOS~~ Xに対応！多少、合成っぽさが残るものの、非常に滑らか、明瞭に発話をします。使ってみると分かるのですが、文字を読み上げてくれるということは、普段使っているパソコンに新鮮さを与えてくれます。皆さんもぜひ試してみてください！同ソフトを開発している同社は、他にも音声合成を利用した個性的なソフトを開発しているようです。Appleが日本語に対応しない~~以上、これからが楽しみな、分野です。~

合成・認識の老舗ブランド、ドキュメントトーカがOS Xに対応。

付属のテキストエディタは、本格的な文書作成に使うには少々シンプルすぎる。だが、クリップボード読上モードのおかげで、不便を感じることは無い。他のエディタで書いた文書を読み上げることができるからだ。

声もOS9の頃より聴きやすく、十分実用レベルと言える。Apple標準の英語より人間らしい声で話す。

次期OSの目玉の１つSpoken Interfaceも、日本語には対応しない模様。日本語版Spoken Interfaceを是非とも実現して欲しい。
