松本孝弘(B'z)のソロ・プロジェクトによる邦楽カヴァー・アルバム。曲ごとに異なったヴォーカリストを起用しているのが最大の特徴で、稲葉浩志の「勝手にしやがれ」、倉木麻衣の「イミテイション・ゴールド」などを楽しめる。ハード・ロック魂全開のギターも、いい。


内容 (「CDジャーナル・レビュー」より)

TAK MATSUMOTO=松本孝弘プロデュースによる、J-POPスタンダードのカヴァー集。7年前の洋楽曲カヴァーに続く今回は純和ものというわけだ。年代的には70年代から80年代のスタンダードが中心で、松本自身が多感な十代の頃に影響を受けた曲がラインナップされた。ただし必ずしも大ヒットした曲だけではないところが、こだわりの選曲だったという印象だ。井上堯之の「一人~I Stand Alone」を取り上げるところに、渋さを感じる。ただ、原曲の譜割りはそのままに、アレンジを一新し、いかにも松本らしいギター・サウンドを前面に打ち出したのは、原曲への敬意と自身の現れだろう。小気味のいい音を聴かせてくれている。この種のアルバムで陥りがちな懐古趣味の落とし穴に入り込むことなく、新鮮にカヴァーを楽しめることができた。ある意味、顔見せ興行的なところも否めないが、フィーチャリングされたシンガーたちの顔ぶれも新鮮で、歌の説得力にも感心させられた。 (小林泰介) --- 2003年12月号

松本氏は、以前洋楽カバーのアルバムを出していましたが、
今回は邦楽で来ましたね。

先行シングルは何曲か聞いていて
「割と原曲に忠実なアレンジだなあ」
という印象を持っていたのですが、
今回、アルバム全曲を通して聞いてみて、
その思いが一層強くなりました。

とは言え、そこはやはり松本氏。
ギターがメインの音作りがされています。

「歌モノ」としてではなく、ギターがメインのアルバムとして聞くのがよろしいかと思います。

「かつて好きだった曲に、ギタリストとしてこんなふうに参加してみたかった」

という彼の思いを具現化したものなのでしょうね。
ある意味、ギタリストの夢であります。

松本氏のギターが好きな人や
「B'z関連のモノなら何でも！」という人にはおすすめです。

逆に「あの人がこの曲を歌うとどうなるんだろ？」と期待いっぱいの人にとっては、
アレンジで冒険し過ぎていない分、物足りなさを感じるかもしれません。

昨年、ZARD、倉木麻衣を迎えてカバーシングルをリリースをして話題になりましたが、
そのリリース後、それらを含めたカバーアルバムが11月にリリースされました。
彼女達だけではなく、B'zの稲葉浩志や、愛内里奈、GARNET CROWの中村由利等の
ヒットチャートでお馴染みのビーイング系アーティストも参加しています。

感想ですが、自分が原曲を聴いたことあるのは、17曲中4曲なのですが、
その4曲を原曲を比べて見ますと、やっぱりカバーとしては今ひとつだった気がします。
とは言っても、個人的にはあまり細かい所を気にしないで聴いてたので、
普通に最後まで楽しむことが出来たアルバムでした。
一番、気に入ったのは、稲葉浩志の「勝手にしやがれ」、滴草由実の「Foggy Night」
竹井詩織里の「パープル・タウン」あたりでした。

バックは予想通りのテクで文句はありません。割とタイトでノれるのですが、どうしてこうまで歌唱力のないつまらないシンガーをフューチャーしたのかが謎。何人かを除いて、もう少し歌えるボーカルを使って欲しかった。
不満はその点だけ。松本のギターを聞くためなら、買い。
