   島原の乱で徳川幕府に滅ぼされたキリシタンたちの若き長・天草四郎（窪塚洋介）は、やがて魔界からよみがえり、現世に未練を持つ剣豪たちを転生させて幕府への復しゅうを誓う。柳生十兵衛（佐藤浩市）は、彼らの陰謀に完全と立ち向かっていく。
   山田風太郎の同名時代劇ファンタジー小説の2度目の映画化。深作欣二監督による『魔界転生』が転生した者たちの怨念を重視していたのに対し、今回の平山秀幸監督版はストーリーも原作のエッセンスを生かし、さらには剣豪対決のチャンバラ映画として徹底させており、まるでゴングが鳴るかのように十兵衛が第1ラウンド、第2ラウンドと魔界の剣豪たちと刃を交わしていく痛快作に仕上がっている。また四郎に付き従い、参謀のように行動するクララお品役の麻生久美子の妖艶な美しさや、四郎を慕う切なさまでも巧みに描かれている。クライマックス、十兵衛とその父・柳生但馬守との対決シーンは、名優・中村嘉葎雄の見事な殺陣もあいまって時代劇ファン必見の優れものとなった。（的田也寸志）

25年前に今は亡き深作欣二監督が、脚本、演出、総指揮をとり、当時衝撃的だった、沢田研二さんの天草四郎役の起用と十兵衛役の千葉真一さん、また、緒方拳、佳那晃子、若山富三郎、真田広之さんなど主役級の脇役陣をそろえ、音楽も超一流、殺陣も鬼気せまるシーンの連続で、すばらしい山田風太郎ワールドを作ってくれました。それにひきかえ、この作品からは、映画職人の魂がまったく感じられない。出演者も監督も音楽もシナリオ、演出も論ずるに値しない駄作だ。皆さんこの作品を観る必要はありません。深作監督版を観て下さい。

前々から気になっていたので、観てみましたが･･･うーん。残念というのが正直な感想です。胤舜や宮本武蔵などの剣豪がでてくるということで、楽しみにしていたのですが扱い方がいまいちというか。そんなに強いというイメージが伝わってきませんでした。もう少し大げさに戦うシーンを展開してもいいですね。特に宮本武蔵役の長塚京三は私の大好きな俳優の一人ですが、あまりにも粗末な扱い・・・悲しくて涙が止まりませんでした。最後のシーンの、窪塚洋介演じる天草四郎も、うーん。雰囲気がねー。ただ、天草の脇役を演じる麻生久美子は非常にいい演技、存在感をだしてます。

おもしろいにはおもしろいけど…。うーん。
佐藤浩市はかっこいい！でも、窪塚の天草四郎はなあ。
似合ってないというか、妖気のオーラがまったく足りない。
素の窪塚がしゃべっているようで、感情移入できませんでした。

カメラワークもカット割りもうまくなく、
映画全体のつながりが悪いと思います。

全体にセンスがないというか、ひどくアンバランスで。
もっと斬新な映像が見たかった。
監督の手腕の問題が大きいのかな。
音楽には緊迫感があったけど、印象に残るメロディではありませんでした。
