B-Tの最高傑作であり、日本のロック史に永遠に名前を残す名盤。これまでの一ヴィジュアル系でしかなかったB-Tが、日本を代表するロック･バンドへと大化けした作品である。優れたバンドには必ずターニングポイントとなる作品があるが、まさしくこれである。

インダストリアルの要素を誰よりも早く取り入れ、生演奏との見事な調和、英語ではなく、日本語によって独自の暗黒世界を表現する歌詞、コンポーザーとしての圧倒的な成長･･･、すべてが素晴らしい。“スピード”“JUPITER”“M･A･D”“太陽ニ殺サレタ”といった代表曲をはじめ、充実の全曲である。

彼らの長い進化の流れを手っ取り早く知るにはベスト盤がお勧めだが、B-Tのすごさを知るにはこれが一番。星五つどころか十点満点の内容だ。

BUCK-TICKのいわゆる「分岐点」がどのアルバムかというのは、本当に賛否両論のようですが、個人的にはこの「狂った太陽」かな・・・と。まず先行でシングルカットされた一曲目の「スピード」はセンセーショナルで、彼らにとっての不朽の名作と言っても過言ではないでしょう。ビジュアル系バンド特有の辛気くささを一気に吹き飛ばし、明るい世界へ飛び出よう!!という意気込みが感じられ、そういう曲を一発目に持ってきたのは、彼らの策略且つその後に多大な影響を及ぼしたのだと思います。この頃から、ファッションやメイクなんかもかなり変化していますね。

ですが、他曲ではまだなんとも言えぬ、泥臭さみたいな物がありますが、「さくら」「ジュピター」「太陽ニ殺サレタ」については、前作「悪の華」のライブ中にVo櫻井敦司氏のお母様がお亡くなりになり、その死に目に会うことができずに、この曲(特に「さくら」)その思いを託したのだとか・・・。そんな逸話を踏まえて改めて聞いてみると、この３曲は泣ける・・・と思います。彼らが2005のベストの中で「さくら」を外さなかったのは、そういう訳で思い入れが強いのでしょうね。

私はこのアルバムを、発売当初からもう何千回と聞いていますが、何故か他のアルバムに比べて音が雑然としています。今井氏がこのアルバムから、かなり打ち込みを取り入れ始めているのですが、それが活きていないのが残念です。(きっとレコーティング手法によるものでしょうが、ノイズではないのですが、耳にあまり心地よくない)ですから、是非音質が向上した、デジタルリマスター版の購入をお勧めします。

91年発売、BUCK-TICKの新しい時代を告げる傑作アルバム。
先行シングルの「スピード」で幕を開け、捨て曲無しの名曲揃い！！

櫻井敦司の世界が確立され、今井寿のコンポーザーとしての
急成長が音楽のレベルを格段にあげている。

BUCK-TICKのベストと言えば、「darker than darkness」か
「狂った太陽」のどちらかだと思うのですが、入門編としては
こちらのほうがポップで構成が格好良いので、オススメです。
